The amazing thing about Oscar is that the film is better rated on Amazon (4.8/5) than the film Stallone best known for (Rocky, 4.7/5). For all its critics, people on Amazon seem to love Oscar with 85% of ratings giving it 5 stars. It's one of the few Stallone films I've never seen.

They said earlier when I asked that there will be horror-themed titles in the October sale.

I wouldn't go in expecting a laugh riot.

It's more of an amusing comedy than a movie that will have you laughing out loud. It's a nice change of pace for Stallone. I remember seeing it for the first time on VHS. My sister rented it for me and I knew nothing about it. I assumed that it was probably another action movie, but OSCAR was a strange name for a Sly action movie. I enjoyed it for being a change of pace kind of movie.

The characters talk fast and the movie busy. It's just endless shenanigans. If you accept that its an irreverent farce I think you can have a good time with it.

Dear Mr. KLI,

Does the Universal deal include any Barbara Stanwyck titles?

And don't expect much from Stallone in it either. He does a competent enough job but it's the supporting cast including Tim Curry, Marisa Tomei, Kurtwood Smith and Peter Riegert who do all the heavy lifting.

Coming November 13th on Blu-ray!

The Chamber (1996)
with optional English subtitles
• 5.1 Surround and 2.0 Lossless Audio
• Theatrical Trailer

Color 113 Minutes 2.35:1 Rated R
Chris O’Donnell (TV’s NCIS: Los Angeles) and screen legends Gene Hackman (Mississippi Burning) and Faye Dunaway (The Thomas Crown Affair) star in this gripping suspense thriller based on an explosive John Grisham (The Gingerbread Man) novel. O'Donnell stars as idealistic young attorney Adam Hall who takes on the death row clemency case of his onetime Klansman grandfather (Hackman). With just 28 days before the execution, Adam sets out to retrace the events leading to the crime for which his grandfather was convicted. As the impending death sentence looms closer, Adam works quickly to uncover the family's history for any hidden clues. In a white-knuckle series of twists and turns, Adam discovers deceptions and dark secrets that ultimately lead him to the startling truth. Directed by James Foley (Glengarry Glen Ross) with a screenplay by William Goldman (All the President’s Men) and Phil Alden Robinson (Sneakers). The top-notch cast includes Robert Prosky (Thief), Raymond J. Barry (Year of the Dragon), Harve Presnell (Fargo), Richard Bradford (The Untouchables), Josef Sommer (Witness), Jane Kaczmarek (D.O.A.), Millie Perkins (The Diary of Anne Frank) and sports legend Bo Jackson.

Agreed. But it seems like Sly was trying to take a step back in the 90's. I think Cliffhanger and of course Copland are two other examples.

Question

Kino Lorber Insider,

Any chance at the 1933 Universal film MYRT & MARGE? The cast includes The Three Stooges in arguably their best pre-Columbia performance. They (and Ted Healy) are featured throughout the movie.

When it comes to Three Stooges related films not on home video, this one sticks out like a sore thumb. There are a lot of Three Stooges fans who would love to own a decent copy of the seldom seen film.

KL Insider, have you guys announced any of those previously released MGM titles (from that deal discussed back in April)?

If not, when will you start announcing them, and how many do you have for release?

Thanks for giving us hints like this. It's one of many reasons why I support Kino.

Deadly China Doll was released by MGM in 1973, so the rights, if it still was with them, would be with Warner Brothers.

The Call of the Wild (1971, Charlton Heston; MGM owns some rights as they put out a MOD DVD with a anamorphic transfer, but the source they used may not have been a HD master)
The Call of the Wild 1976 (Charles Fries/Worldvision TV movie, has a HD master making the rounds on ITunes and Vudu)
Never Say Never Again (MGM releases are OOP)
P.I Private Investigations
Illegally Yours
National Lampoons Movie Madness (needs a HD transfer, but would go good with National Lampoon's Class Reunion which KL is planning to release)

Former TT titles that are definitely sold out:
Equus
Salvador (needs a new transfer as the TT disc used an old master used for the original MGM DVD)
Richard III
Support Your Local Sheriff & Support Your Local Gunfighter (KL also released the double feature on DVD; both could use new transfers)
Mississippi Burning
Mississippi Mermaid
Lenny
The Fabulous Baker Boys
The Dogs of War
Crimes and Misdemeanors
Broadway Danny Rose
The Bounty
None of the top titles are with KL.

We have 4 of the titles previously released by TT. And only plan to do a new transfer for one of them.
