I've learned a lot from the various KL Insiders in this forum, beginning with MisterLime. Aside from mentioning their own releases, the insiders have also revealed where the rights to many other films currently reside. They have willingly answered questions about the whereabouts of films that they don't currently plan to release. Such tidbits are invaluable to me.

Call me a syncopating sycophant, if you wish.

I hope Kino-Lorber's legal department will look into the possibility of releasing my favorite Burt Reynolds movie:

I'm not acting sycophantic; I just don't see the point in pointless sniping over something so trivial, especially when you don't even bother to get your facts straight.

That is nice.... what about the transfer?

The look and image quality of this film is the most important thing.

Please don't let it be an old master.
Any word about the Far From Heaven transfer, KLI?

I'm with PowellPressburger here—I hope this one warrants a new scan, not a dated HD transfer, since presumably all current BD releases are from the same scan on the Canadian 2011 release that, though I haven't seen it, I assume could be improved upon given its age and the time it's taken for someone to pick it up for US (or UK) release.

And I don't understand why others are so snide either. For the record, I also disagreed with the KLI about those Monroe films but there's no reason to be a dick about it. Are they posting on here to help drum up business? Absolutely, but it's also a great benefit to us, the consumers, because we get the inside line on what titles are coming, the heads up on good deals and sales, and we also get to provide him/them with feedback and input on what we would like to see.

I apologize for bringing the Marilyn stuff into this thread. Definitely did not think it would turn into general snark and bickering. I appreciate Kino for reaching out to fans on here, and it was just meant to be a simple suggestion on my part. Nothing more, nothing less. If they want and get those movies with Marilyn’s supporting roles, then terrific. If not, then life goes on. They already have plenty of titles out and/or in the pipeline that I want.

So great that Kino is doing Stick. They've been very generous with Burt Reynolds films. Goes without saying this will be a day one buy; now we just need Rough Cut!

STICK!!! YESSSSSS!!!

Thank you guys, seriously! Made a sad day truly bittersweet!

Kind of a funny memory about Stick... Back when my dad had his video store, he put together a really neat cardboard standee for Stick for the front window, and I remember the first time I saw the standee featuring Reynolds holding the machine gun in front of the broken glass, my immediate thought was "Man, someone made the Cannonball Run guy really mad!"

I was 5.

Glad I've got most of the Burt Reynolds HD filmography, because literally every single title of his is out of stock on Amazon right now...

One Burt film I never hear people talk about is 1982's Best Friends. Say what you will but I really like that film. It's a side of Burt you rarely saw in his movies - at least not the one's I've seen. Hopefully Warner will release it on the Archives line.

Yes, Best Friends and Starting Over stand as proof that Burt wasn’t just a tough-guy action-hero.

Speaking of a different side of Burt... What about Paternity?

It's Paramount and was never released on DVD.

Watched White Lightning last night in honor of Burt. A good Kino release. It's not a great movie, but it's still good, and has lots of good car chases. Plus, there's a recent interview with Burt on the disc. Good stuff!

After Reynolds delivered his cut of the film which was much more faithful to the novel, Universal hated it, pushed it back a year and asked him to reshoot the second half of the picture, adding a new character (his daughter) and dropping another entirely (Annie Potts' movie executive: stills from her scenes are in the stills gallery on the German DVD). You can easily tell the reshot parts of the movie because Reynolds had lost so much weight after his accident on the set of City Heat, which was shot after he wrapped the first version. Reynolds always regretted agreeing to the reshoots:

Quote:
"I gave up on the film. I didn't fight them. I let them get the best of me...Leonard saw the film the day he was interviewed for a Newsweek cover and told them he hated it. After his comment, every critic attacked the film and he wouldn't talk to me. When I reshot the film, I was just going through the motions. I'm not proud of what I did, but I take responsibility for my actions. All I can say--and this is not in way of a defense--is if you liked the first part of 'Stick,' that's what I was trying to achieve throughout."
An early version of the poster for the movie had the tag line 'if only they'd left him alone.' Elmore Leonard reportedly had a doctored version of that in his office with the tag line changed to 'If only they'd left the script alone.'

To add insult to injury, the film flopped so badly it went straight to video in most international territories - and that's where the original cut apparently turned up. A few scenes from that version, including the original ending, turned up on Youtube, while the BBC showed the original cut in 1989 but never repeated it.

What's the deal with HEAT?

Paramount released it on VHS forever ago, but there was a DVD by a budget label (may not have even been a legit release?) a few years back.

It's available in HD on Vudu, yet there has been no Blu-ray release.

EDIT: According to the info on Vudu... Lionsgate. Mystery solved.
