Mr. Munny does occasionally have a potty mouth. Particularly in the rain. The violence is pretty heavy, although somewhat tame compared to a lot modern fare.

I know what you mean but I think the violence carries a bit more gravity in this due to the subject matter and (at times) dank directorial style. It definitely feels more real.

Definetely watching this when home alone. I think the premises are too intense for certain audiences.

I understand what you're saying, I would agree it's more realistic for a western, but imo, violence in a western is kinda like violence in certain cartoons, it's a given, and always in a particular kind of style that seems to transcend reality in a showy kind of way.

Saw this many times with my father when I was a relatively young kid and I never felt like I was watching something I shouldn't. The violence and sex are fairly tame by my standards and often dimly lit. Hackman's character

[Show spoiler]is a sadist and beats/whips several characters

and those are probably the roughest scenes in the film. The themes are adult but they'll likely fly over most kids' heads.

Childen under 10 or so will likely just be bored by it though. It's deliberately paced, talky and often dark & quiet.

At IMDB if you go to the film and scroll down to parental's guide it has a complete break down on sex, violence and disturbing scenes, etc.

Just read about it on IMDB. Definitely watching this alone, particularly for the element of abuse on women depicted in it

Lol I just meant the movies tone in general. It’s just one of those movies I watch when I have the house to myself. Not because of its subject matter, more because I don’t want anyone talking to me lol

Good idea. The scene at the beginning of the film involving the abuse of a woman is devastating. A lot about Unforgiven is devastating, though. Although it is in the conversation for being the best western ever, it is not infrequently hard to take. In fact, as I have come to penetrate its intricacies more over the course of many viewings, the more disturbing I have thought it is. Don't misunderstand me, though. No self respecting film buff should miss it. Unforgiven is great by any measure.
