III isn't even stupid fun though, just feels lazy and cheap to me. I can't really enjoy that one on any level.

Not gonna try to convince you on FK but I'm surprised someone could hate it so much and not also hate the first JW. JW isn't as dumb as FK but that's only because 90% of JW is a retread of the original minus any of the original's magic. What new ideas the film does have are just as dumb as FK's and I'd argue they're not as well written, acted or shot as FK's dumb ideas.

I can agree that the new ideas in JW are dumb. I really enjoyed JW for the first half of the movie or so. It was fun seeing a modern, fully operational park open to the public at last. It did get dumb though with stuff like engineering the Indominous Rex and the corny villains flying in and what not.

I think FK is worse, though. It took the dumb ideas from JW and to the extreme. The Indoraptor was lame - hey we modified Indominous Rex with Raptor DNA! Umm, except the Indominous Rex was ALREADY part Raptor, whatever. The lead characters were even shallower versions of who they were in JW and the villains were practically 1-dimensional Ducktales-quality moustache-twirling cartoons.

I'll have to check but I would assume so. This was just an early shipment of the steels and the DVD.

Dude, that's the exact image I have in my head when I think of the villains, all they're missing is a great big 'tache and a maniacal laugh. It's not that there aren't villains in this series that are as shallow as the goons in FK - Cowboy in TLW springs to mind - but here we get THREE of them for good measure. Not one, not two, but three baddies who have as much depth as a paddling pool. Compare Ted Levine's gamekeeper-type in this one to Pete Postlethwaite's in TLW and they are galaxies apart. Sure, Vincent D'onofrio is hardly Colonel Kurtz in JW (although he's fat enough) but there's enough of a gleam in his eye to convince that he's not just there for the paycheque, whereas Rafe Spall and Toby Jones are sleepwalking through this. Christ, Jones was 10x more menacing as a goddamned computer screen in Winter Soldier. FK is a stunningly awful film, makes JW look like a masterpiece.

The dumbest thing in the Jurassic World series so far is the "weaponizing dinosaurs" subplot. Second dumbest thing is Owen swamped by a pyroclastic flow and
[Show spoiler]then emerging from it unscathed. Yeah...no. Owen would be fried and - if lucky - asphyxiated before becoming human charcoal
. Third dumbest thing is the ridiculously low prices offered for the surviving dinosaurs during the auction in Fallen Kingdom. $4 million for one of them, which might buy someone thirty seconds during the SuperBowl, but seems awfully low for a dinosaur.

AUCTIONEER
And now, ladies and gentleman, a triceratops in her prime. Note her health and upkeep and those magnificent horns. We'll start the bidding at four dollars.

Yes I did find it amusing that making a movie about dinosaurs is more profitable than cloning and selling actual dinosaurs.

That's a fair assessment. I suppose I prefer a film that embraces its ridiculousness and tries some new things like FK over a safer film like JW. I tend to have a soft spot for cinematic messes though.

I absolutely could not stand anything about D'Onofrio's character in JW. He and his subplot were obnoxiously irritating whereas I can't remember a damned thing about FK's villains other than that they were indeed all cartoonish with transparent motives. JW's control center techs were irritating as well, as was the older kid. I'll take forgettable over irritating but that's admittedly a matter of personal taste. III had both and that's just one reason I consider it easily the worst in the series thus far.

Kind of unfair to compare anyone to Postlethwaite in TWL. He gives the film's best performance and is by far it's most interesting character and that's even with his introduction cut and complete absence in the film's final act. But I liked Levine in FK. Again, he was transparent as hell but so over the top that you just had to laugh at the character.

That's the thing though, when they're ALL as nakedly transparent as that (along with the fiendish Dr Wu and Jimmy Cromwell's flip-floppingly terrible accent) I get tired of laughing at them. And the ones I should be laughing at, the "hilarious" comedy sidekicks, barely raised as much as a titter. The bit in JW when the tech guy goes in for a traditional movie moment kiss that gets rejected by the tech girl had me lol'ing, those did two did their job but the muppets in FK left me cold.

I just wanted to smack those two. lol

Felt like the comic relief wasn't played up so much in FK and then it was gone completely once they got to the estate. I'm generally not a fan of the 'humor' in contemporary blockbusters (not one of TLJ's biggest detractors for example but I do agree with many on here that the jokes are very poor) so that's another plus for the film over JW in my book. Pratt probably has the jokiest moment in the film, which of course they used in the trailer and thus had me worried about the film's tone going in, but it's just a throwaway gag and at least Pratt is talented enough to kind of sell it.

And we definitely need a 'The Fiendish Dr. Wu' spinoff.

Thought the computer kid in the new one was funny. "I don't think we're compatible" got a laugh out of me.

Watched it again ya know what I really loved the movie the music, cinematography cgi is all really good.

The last half in the mansion with the Rain and thunder is a cool setting for a JP ending.

For me this is the 3rd best in the franchise with 1 and world being top 2

As far as the villains go: the Jurassic Park formula is to have transparent villains who the audience gets joy out of seeing being violently killed in the end by a dinosaur. We don’t need nuance or a deep character study of a JP villain.

This movie delivered on everything I’d want from a JP sequel:

Stunning Visuals? Yes
Characters you can root for? Yes
Cool dinosaurs? Yes
People being chased by dinosaurs? Yes
Villians being eaten by dinosaurs? Yes
Comic relief? Yes
Moral and ethical questions? Yes

I also don’t apply real world science to these movies. Bioengineering dinosaurs isn’t real either.

Sure they could have fleshed certain characters out more, but then the movie would need to be much longer.

I don’t begrudge anyone for not loving the movie; but to call it awful? Really? Other than the first film, which is a masterpiece, they’re just fun big budget CGI movies. That is all.

HOW TO KNOW YOU'RE NOT GOING TO GET KILLED IN A JURASSIC WORLD FILM:

The dinosaur doesn't immediately pounce and make you dinner. It instead, inexplicably, comes closer...closer....closer!...CLOSER!! Then something random happens and the dinosaur turns its head, allowing you to dart away. Everyone else, no such luck. No slow-moving horror for you guys -- immediate chompage. But if you're a kid in bed, and there's an indoraptor in the room, and the indoraptor is taking its sweet time getting to you while the camera is enjoying its silhouette in a bed canopy...you're gonna be fine.

I’m really curious to see what the next one will be like and where the main action will take place it’s defiantly going to be an interesting movie for the franchise cause it forces the writers out of the comforts nest of “we have to go to the island” and having the action all easily play out on said island.

And if the rumors are true about Sam Neil, Laura Dern and Goldblum all returning along side Pratt and Howard that would be epic.

I might've missed/forgotten something, but why were we supposed to care that the little girl was
[Show spoiler]a clone? They built it up as a big reveal but we never knew her, her mother/original, or the grandfather before this movie, so what was the big deal? I was expecting her to be Laura Dern's daughter or something the entire time
.

A little grounding and nuance certainly wouldn't hurt, though, would it? Off the shelf "corporate/military villain of the week" is getting boring. I wasn't really joking when I said we should cut together the Canto Bight casino sequence from The Last Jedi with the Auction sequence from Fallen Kingdom.

The dinosaurs are riding horses, speaking English, and herding their human slaves into cages.
