Default Tarsem on his "War of the Gods"

From Empire...

Quote:
We talked to director Tarsem Singh recently in anticipation of the DVD release of fantasy oddity The Fall on Monday, and he spilled a few intriguing-sounding beans on his hoped-for next film, War of the Gods. Here's what he had to say.

"It’s turning into, basically, Caravaggio meets Fight Club," he said. "It’s a really hardcore action film done in Renaissance painting style. I want to see how that goes; it’s turned into something really cool. This guy who I really love, who’s the only one person in it right now, is the brother in The Tudors, Henry Cavill. I’m going for a very contemporary look on top of that so I’m kind of going with, you know, Renaissance time with electricity. So it’s a bit like Baz Luhrman doing Romeo + Juliet in Mexico; it’s just talking a particular Greek tale and half contemporising it and telling it."

To say that this sounds so-weird-it's-awesome would be an understatement. Caravaggio was a big influence on Tarsem's Losing My Religion video (find that here) and we'd be lying if we said that "Caravaggio meets Fight Club" doesn't sound like just about the best idea ever (although someone should really do "da Vinci meets Halloween" if you ask us).

Read the full Tarsem interview here, or alternatively start petitioning your nearest Hollywood studio boss to make this demented project at once!

I can see why this guy has to work outside of the Hollywood system, he doesn't do a very good job of explaining himself.

I mean seriously what producer is going to fork of 150M for something like this:

I think it could be great, but I would be hard pressed to pay for it

but!!! This is Tarsem we are talking about...he's a known legend and most would give money just to be part of one of his films.

Don't get me wrong, i'd be the first at the theatre to line up to see it. However, try to convince someone to give you money for a movie that you can best describe as a Rennessaince style action film with a contemporary look. I mean it didn't work too well for The Musketeer.

It does sound like a very interesting steam-punkish idea, which is rarely seen in this era.
Can't wait to see how it turns out

It is frustrating as a ciema fan. Has he not proven himself with The Fall? The folks with the cash ought to get behind this guy. If he were embraced like...lets say....Tim Burton or Aronofsky....we could have lots of exotic, beautifull, bizzarre and wonderfull films. The only thing holding his creative genius back is financing. Shame.

didn't he have to fund The Fall himself after his producers back out? I think I remember reading that somewhere...which is why it took so long for it to be released...

Let's hope this actually gets picked up by a major studio for massive distribution. I also hope it doesn't take as long as The Fall did to film.

Yes that is true.....and also why the film didnt have a wide release.....I would have loved to have seen it on the big screen.
