I don't think the 80G was completely software emulation though. I still think it had a part of the PS2 inside.

Im so sick of noobs saying "well I dont use that feature, so it doesnt need to exist" its such a naive and egotistical viewpoint.

I have a large PS2 collection. I also still have my PS2. However, my PS3 does an amazing job upconverting my ps2 games to 1080p. This, along with the fact that the PS3's HDD is a giant memory card, is why BC is important to me.

If you dont care about BC, thats great. But dont act like its a useless feature to ask for.

Having models that don't have BC really hurts the PS2 downloads through PSN thing. And the 80GB still had the graphics chip from the PS2 in it.

I agree with Max that they shouldn't have said anything about those rumors. That was a bit much on the vitriol they were spewing on the PSP2 rumor. They like having IGN report on Sony stuff, right?

As for the buying an emulator rumblings, I'll say again I'll happily work on it as soon as Sony gives the community the tools (RSX in linux at the absolute minimum). Not that I can do much, the real wizards already work for Sony. Might help if the PR people stop declaring BC dead...

There's nothing they can say that'll make you happy except "here it is" when it's ready. If it's too difficult and they're not developing software emulation then you're accusing them of lying when they're not. If they release a new model with PS2 hardware inside again they're obviously not going to advertise that in advance.

Shin, that's why they should have taken the approach I said and not bothered with replying. Both rumours would have faded into nothingness, all they have done is illicit a reaction.

Honestly speaking, SCEE's PR team needs sacking right now. They are incredibly poor at media handling on a small scale, their large scale team is incredibly slick (trade shows and such), but rumour response and interviews are handled by a bunch of idiots.

Seriously though, SCE shouldn't bother with rumours, or channel it all through one official place like a rumour response blog so Sony can issue denials at will!

If SCEE hadn't commented on either story I don't think there could have been too many complaints that they are ignoring anyone.

Anyway, the only times I remember SCE actively denying rumours that were later true are price cuts, which tbh is expected behaviour...

Not everyone has that kind of disposable income. For some the $399 for a new PS3 was a lot of money to them.

Maybe a little melodramitic

, but like Max said I would rather them say nothing. I don't have a problem with their products I play PS3 on a Sony tv, and listen on a Sony stereo. I just don't like the way their PR reps handle things.
I also think they could hint around and say wait and see, instead of saying NO, .............ok yes.

I didn't buy a PS3 to play last generation games... as was said, keep your PS2 if PS2 games mean that much to you.

All the SCE yahoos need to do is say "We don't comment on rumors. If and when we have something to announce, we'll announce it."

Do game mag reporters still try getting a few drinks inside company reps to open them up? Gaming companies should prohibit reps from drinking at industry functions or dinners with game journalists present. It never leads to any good from a PR perspective.

Since I have a BC PS3 it doesn't affect me that much, but it really irritates me that if I want to buy a second PS3 that it wouldn't be able to play PS2 games.

I love having one device that can play three generations of Sony's games, and I look forward to a device that can play four!
