I only trust Geoff's off screen as an know his TV and settings (as long as it's not DV)
I'm sure it will look great on my Sony A1E, so I'm not too concerned about what tv he's using. I think is pretty obvious the colors, although the same as the 35th disc, look noticeably richer in the 4K pics.

I just watched the review again, and I think you guys are trying to talk yourselves out of the need to upgrade. The 4K looks way, way better to me.

Um have it on order.......

And I don't base, nor justify a purchase on off screen random videos

I never understood why someone would want to watch this movie with the color palette being bright, warm, and vivid. It's a horror movie that takes place in Illinois on Halloween. The colors SHOULD be drained, cold, and bleak looking.

Same with terminator 2, everyone knows that during August in LA the nights are steel blue.

Hmm... weird. To me, the colors are absolutely 100% richer on the 35th Anniversary blu-ray, in those particular low-fi comparisons. In any case:

1. I'm disappointed it's not a total re-grade, 'cuz I'm not a fan of the corpse-like grey skin-tones during the daytime stuff... so this doesn't improve that for me

2. Like I said, I still only have a 1080p projector and not looking to upgrade any time soon, so all I'd get out of this new UHD is the same color grade (with even LESS color and lower white values, to my eyes and on a 1080p system)... and because it's DolbyVision and not just HDR-10, it'd be downconverted to 1080/60 instead of 1080/24. I'm not giving up my 24fps on this beloved title.

My perfect combo would've been: new color timing (primarily for daytime material) on the UHD disc -- which would've been "future proofing" for me -- and with an enclosed blu-ray that included the new grading. But what do we get: same 35th Anniversary Color Grade on a new UHD + old blu-ray from 2007 (!!!!!) = no sale, no brainer... for me

The 2007 one looks like its on fire and not natural at all. There are older VHS versions with a distinct orange and brown tone that I do like, as it matches the material. The 2018 film looks to match that color tone as well. The Rob Zombie ones just looked grimy.

The 5.1 is atrocious. A whole new movie experience.

Liking the 4K photos. No idea how it's supposed to look, but I prefer more drab version of the film.

I could never understand this point of view. Is there a particular reason why this movie needs to have “natural” colors? It’s a piece of art, a very stylish art from the 70s. It can have whatever colors the filmmakers wanted. And I can say with absolute certainty, the original 35mm prints do not look like the UHD/35th. Having said that, this release will be day one for me, as I can forgive this particular color grading and everything else is hopefully stellar. I’m looking forward to seeing it in HDR.

If you don't think the 4K image isn't worth the upgrade, you are wrong. Totally...

I understand this was meant to be tongue 'n' cheek, with the "totally" quote from the movie and all... but in general, statements of opinion passed off as fact are my biggest pet peeve about these crappy forums. Assessments of "Art" and even "worth" are completely subjective statements. I'll decide what's "worth" it, for me. And this is not. In fact, here's a definitive FACT: this "upgrade" is not worth it... for me. (See... when I add the "for me" at the end, it becomes a factual statement about my personal opinion)

Can’t wait, will look much better than the bluray. The 35th was definitly the best the films ever looked so I’m sure this UHD will be even better.

I don't really care what the transfer looks like, I'm buying this day one.

Anyone else with me?

I ended up pre-ordering the US disc instead of the UK one. Really looking forward in seeing it, especially with Autumn coming up.

To further fulfill my horror needs, I also ended up pre-ordering Shout Factory's upcoming Collector's Edition of Creepshow and The Evil Dead UHD. I also got myself Severin's release of Zombi Holocaust and the 88 Films release of Creepshow 2. I'm planning on getting Scream Factory's Halloween II remaster, Evil Dead 2 UHD and Blue Underground's Zombie remaster as well.

These will be my October/Halloween movies for this year (except Zombie, due out in November)!

Well if reviews before release say it looks like crap I would cancel my preorder, but I don’t think that will be the case. Looks like it will be the 35th transfer with 4K resolution and HDR, so it should look amazing.
