We all need Psycho in 4k Ultra after this.

Psycho and Halloween were the first 2 Horror films to really push the genre into the modern world.

The colour timing has been changed again? Hahahaha I'm honestly not surprised.

Halloween must hold the record for the most amount of different colour gradings.

With Alien and Se7en a close second and third respectively.

I do love Psycho, and would buy basically any Hitchcock movie in 4K on day one.

Yeah I'm not sure why this happened, but if I had to guess they do these different color timings because someone thinks it looks fresher and newer. And the original blu ray 25GB or 50Gb with that gens codecs are limited / can't replicate 16mm and up fully I believe...anyway) I think some people think film looks old and not trendy or new enough.

But those colors look blown out to me. They did paint the dead leaves you see for Halloween. They created fall with 3 trashbags of painted leaves lol. Then rebag the leaves for the next shot.

Some great filmakers in the 50's used to paint leaves black so that it would contrast with the whites and greys more. Kazuo Miyagawa.

I want to watch it in Mono with the film negative and the more accurate grain and original director/cinematographer intentions. I prefer friday the 13th part 2 in Mono.

I have a question about the color timing as I don't really know much about how it works, but with a film that was shot darker in many scenes like Halloween, does this give a color grading tech more room to play with different levels as opposed to a more brightly lit film? Or does that not factor in at all? I just figured I'd ask as it seems like an interesting area of film production.

I'm not trolling... I love Psycho... but what would the benefit of 4K UHD/HDR be for Psycho or for B&W movies in general?
Can someone enlighten me cause I feel the upgrades are for color.

Really the MONO track on the 4K UHD is going to be DVD quality?

That is just odd, again another distributor releasing a title and they really have no business doing so if they don't know the first thing about the formats of DVD / BLU / 4K UHD

Does it contain an ATMOS track?

They still have plenty of disc space for a PCM MONO track.

however it will get another re-issue in another 3 ish years. Maybe a foreign release will issue a true uncompressed MONO audio track

I need shots asap, as the mono may be a deal breaker.

Based on this video (and I understand they're just screen grabs devoid of motion), it seems like the 35th Anniversary and 4K release look similar, if the Blu-ray comes off as a bit brighter -- but they're starkly different compared to the original Starz!/Anchor Bay Blu-ray, which I own, as you can clearly see the saturated color points, especially in flesh tones...

I'm going to have to give my original Blu a spin this October 31 to get a feel for that disc's transfer again (I usually gravitate to the THX DVD, even all these years later, because of the color timing on that disc); maybe by that time I'll have a UHD player (still deciding on a "premium" one).

What?! English Mono (Dolby Digital) has to be a misprint, right?

If worse comes to worse, I already have the Spain import Blu-ray and even that has the original mono in lossless -- English: DTS-HD Master Audio 2.0. It was one I picked up specifically for that reason. Doesn't really help those who want the lossless original track on the 4K though...

So the impression I'm getting from that video is that the color scheme on the 35th and UHD is essentially the same except the 35th looks more saturated.

Far from an ideal comparison but I was expecting the UHD to look like the 35th with more saturation. Not the other way round.

Can't wait to get hold of the disc so I can see what it actually looks like.
