Maybe they'll find a way to turn the film into a theme park ride manned by minimum wage ex-cons and reboot it into another billion-dollar franchise. I think that's why they're buying up everything.

![]() ![]() Seriously though, Disney is not going to abandon anything to suitable for kids after the merger. They have Touchstone and ABC, they're keeping Fox Searchlight open, they intend to release all upcoming Fox productions, even Bob Iger stated he would keep Deadpool 2 rated R. So what does that tell you? |

That's why I'm still buying up Fox stuff that I want to own and finding for cheap. Just got Castaway and Revenge of the Nerds the other day from Wal-Mart for about 6 bucks each. Disney barely puts out their own catalog titles, doubt they will even bother with the Fox stuff (but I'm sure you'll be able to stream it on their service), and if they do the price will probably be jacked up (which if they happened to be remasters then okay, but more than likely it'll just be the same stuff, just more expensive).

* also, with the Cronenberg retrospective being done in LA at the end of the month, perhaps the Q&A that's supposed to be done with Cronenberg, Geena Davis and Howard Shore could be included. Last edited by BluCollector13; 09-12-2018 at 11:07 PM. |

I went to a 35mm screening of this and noticed several instances where the soundtrack was different. Does anyone know why it was changed for the DVD/Blu-Ray?

They really need to stop screwing with the soundtracks for home video release, but at this point, where fluctuations between releases, such as mixed volume level, are so far apart that there is apparently no followed standards, tells you all you need to know. |

The biggest difference that I know of is the removal of the synth stingers during the last half hour of the film. Maybe when the film was being remastered and restored for the first DVD set, Cronenberg requested their removal because he thought they dated the film.

You're asking why they "mess with" the audio for home releases. I'm telling you why they remix the audio, and changing certain effects or cues are often part of that.
![]() You can't complain about one aspect of home video remixes without accepting it's all revisionist. |

I don't care if they include mixes for more speakers. They should include the original also in that case, otherwise revisionism is exactly what it is. Have you read the forums? I'm not the only one that cares about the original sound design. The main issue is nearfield mixing, which is totally unnecessary, because they also do TV mixes, so use that mix if you feel the soundbar people need another mix. Nearfield mixing and reduced dynamic range seems to be done without any industrywide standard, because levels and dynamic range vary far too much from release to release. Why do yet another mix except for the mixers to make more money. I've heard all the reasons from them, and I'm not buying it. |
