Not sure who owns the rights in the US, so not saying it is likely or would happen, but...
IF we are going to see them doing more recent releases (which I have no problem with), I'd love to see things that haven't gotten a proper US release on blu-ray yet, like THE LOVED ONES. |

there are a couple on that list that haven't seen a blu yet. As far as I'm concerned, any release that hasn't seen a blu is a good release to me. Doesn't mean I'll buy it, but sure beats an unnecessary double dip. I don't pay $30 for a slipcover and some special features I'll never watch. Still have high hopes that Valentine will be released for Valentines Day 2019.

It's within the realm of possibility. They're re-releasing Papillon through the Archives line, which tells me there's no such thing as a prestige release for them anymore. I'm hoping Criterion picks up The Shining, though. If I'm going to pay a premium I'd rather a premium label handle it.

It would be a surprise, but a year ago, I didn't think WB would be giving them any titles.

Just thinking about both the Shining and the Exorcist. Not saying this is something that should happen (it shouldn't), but I'm surprised we haven't seen a remake of The Shining, or another installment of the Exorcist. I know both the Shining and Exorcist have seen some form of a TV reboot, but I'm talking just a straight up movie remake of the original. A lot of the major horror movies have seen a remake now but these still remain untouched.

While the EXORCIST had a couple sequels, and a prequel (well, two), it's still not exactly a marketing/money making machine with potential for annual sequels like the previously mentioned slashers. And, I can't speak for any studio or anyone in Hollywood, but, it is possible that both of them actually do have enough "prestige" behind them that no one is willing to do that? It might be viewed as re-making CASABLANCA or IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE, to some extent. That being said, I think there is a difference with book-based properties, so I personally wouldn't be against the idea of another adaptation of either one. I would not expect them to be better than either of the original movies but, potentially could be a better adaptation (the less said about the TV mini-series of THE SHINING the better, even if it was a "better" "adaptation"). However, I somehow just don't see that happening with either one. |

I don’t know about The Shining but The Exorcist is way overrated. I personally thought it was laughably silly and The Omen is better and much scarier.

I first watched the film a few years back and found it mostly enjoyable, but the amount of spinelessness required by Mia Farrow was more than a bit annoying. For the length of that run time she allows herself to be completely and utterly controlled by not only her husband (which was fine considering the era the film was made in) but also by complete strangers and people whom she had no business listening to. The entire film just felt "off" to me, and not in a good way. The amount of disbelief that was required to be suspended pushed passed even some of the most ridiculous horror tales. By comparison, while the Exorcist has lost some of it's shock as I've grown older it's impact as a film (both as a horror film and as just a work of art) has remained as prevalent as ever. The Exorcist is by far the best of the films mentioned. The Omen I love as well and have fond memories of watching as a kid in front of my parents fireplace and being enamored by even the TBS/TNT tv edit of it. I'd argue The Omen is the more approachable film and one that's easier to revisit repeatedly as it requires less from the viewer. Rosemary's baby is a classic that needs to be watched for sure but it has a bit too much of the 1960's in it and appears far to hokey at times. It would be however the most ripe for a Remake/re-imagining if treated well. |
