I haven't noticed that on my low nit set-up, but perhaps it can exist also with certain tone mapping. In fact, one of the main reasons I like UHD BD catalogs so much is because the grain is generally finer (less blocky) and rendered more naturally (more filmlike) especially with better encoding.

Looked and sounded fantastic. Watched it on my C8 OLED. Great colors and contrast. Superb details and film grain. Good use of HDR. This was a very well made scan of the OCN, wouldn’t be surprised if it’s freshly made for this 4K release. No black crush like on Christine.

The sound remix is great and sounds better than the original mono. It’s no comparison. The minor changes in cues are insignificant.

This is the definitive Halloween release.

The Halloween theme during the opening credits has some additional harmonizing chords. I actually think this track sounds better in the 7.1. If these added layers are present in the mono they seem to be buried. Also, the 7.1 sounds closer to how the official soundtrack sounds.

Added thunder and rain sounds in the scene with Loomis and the nurse driving to Smith’s Grove.

“Laurie’s Theme” cue that’s heard when she’s in her classroom starts a few seconds later.

Right after Annie shouts, “Hey jerk, speed kills!”, the audio track was “corrected” so that the music no longer suddenly changes to a higher pitch as heard in the mono. Even if the pitch change was unintentional, I still like it. Gives a strange feeling to the scene.

The sound effect when Michael suddenly sits up in the backseat of Annie’s car has been changed.

The part where Michael slices Annie’s neck has added a stinger in addition to the one that was already present on the mono.

Cricket sounds have been changed which apparently sound more similar to the crickets in Halloween II.

Anyone know of any other changes/additions?

1. The very first note of the score (when Judy’s light turns off) is more anemic-sounding on the surround mix, much fuller on the mono.

2. The sound of the metal breaking the glass in the Myers house is altered.

3. Loomis’s final gun click at the end is missing on at least some surround mixes.

4. The final music cue (as Loomis looks down to see Michael Has vanished) is awkwardly inserted in the surround mixes. It feels as if the music cue begins suddenly, already in progress. This is hard to explain, but comparing the two tracks will make the difference pretty obvious.

There are other minor differences, but those are the ones that drive me crazy (in addition to what you’ve already pointed out).

Yeah, some of these don't sound acceptable. The music cue at the end being one. The cue being what it is just gives the ending an eerie feeling. Especially with the expression on Loomis face.

Teens are often dumb. A lot of films have characters that make bad choices. The average joe isn't all that bright to be honest.

As far as being 5 stars go? If we're just talking horror movies I think I'd consider it 5 stars, but I can understand those that do so overall. It's a good movie and it had so much influence also.
