The cue titles are solid black on both my blu-ray versions but there's definitely a white blotchy flickering going on with my uhd copy. Not sure how else to describe it but I've never experienced anything like it before myself either. What's weird though is that it flickers even when paused.

Edit: It’s probably a hardware issue and not a disc issue.
I've never had an issue with any other of my uhd's on my xbox and I have about 100 of them.

Looks perfectly fine on my setup. Clear the retained memory on your Xbox, then unplug it from the wall and plug it back in to restart. I just can’t see this being a disc problem.

You're right, just popped in another UHD and got some slight blotchy flickering when going from a black title screen. Maybe my S is on the way out. Thanks for the feedback.

It's just REALLY bad on Halloween for some reason. I really need an X.

X is fantastic all around and my favorite UHD player. I like it better than the Oppo and the new Panasonic. I have them all, but use the X 90% of the time.

Did you clear the memory and unplug it for a few minutes? It may also be your HDMI cable. The new 48 Gbps $30 Belkin from the Apple store is the best cable on the market right now.

You may prefer it, but it's not the proper way to watch the film.
And when Halloween 8K is released supervised and approved by Carpenter and Cundey stating it's the intended look of the film, you and others will defend that release and say the 4K is the wrong transfer. So what gives and when will it end?

It's not going to end. Home video standards will change, technology will change, memories will fade, opinions will change. On 8K, or whatever format replaces UHD, Halloween will probably look slightly different again.

I'm well aware of that. The last part of my post was a rhetorical question.

Spot checked my copy last night and was so impressed I ended up watching a good chunk of the film before I turned in for the night.

First, the sequence in the beginning where Laurie is walking the neighborhood looks gloomier than I remember but then I realized this is set during late October and it's supposed to look gloomy. They've finally got this looking like I assume it was intended to look. Those scenes always looked overly bright to me. And this may sound silly but there was a 3D effect during that sequence that I never experienced before. Maybe it was because I was sitting closer to the TV but there were moments where it actually felt I was there following the cast around. It was breathtaking.

The colors were definitely better. And clarity was improved. I never noticed how dirty car windshields actually were! Fingerprints and specks everywhere lol. The red interiors of that car in the beginning and the sun setting whilethey were driving were spectacular.

I don't know,maybe I'm overreacting but I'm really giddy about this release

Xbox is a pretty average player at best, regardless if it’s an S or X.

Not silly at all. When the 35th Anniversary BD came out I was blown away by the depth inherent in format being finally being translated to the small screen. It really is just as important as the negative space used in the compositions. And it's in this sense that Halloween truly transcends its small budget/ small movie origins. No wonder JC chose to spend over half the budget on that Panavision gear and on the processing.

Yeah the depth of the UHD is outstanding. The DV pass really gives the disc some drama with the extra highlight/shadow detail. When I was watching the daylight scenes I was thinking that the format doesn’t get the love it should from a resolution perspective. Sure the real winner is HDR/WCG but the more I see 35mm content I’m appreciating the extra resolution that much more. The scenes where Mikey is shown lurking around look much better to my eyes and I can clearly make out the lines in his mask. For the first time in I don’t how many viewings I was creeped out.

The lack of the original mono is the only holding back this otherwise great release.

I also tried watching this on an XB1X, Got a "try a different disc" error. Did a hard reset, uninstalled/reinstalled the Blu-ray app, still got the error. After taking it in out a couple times it finally read it. I didn't watch the entire thing, but the level of detail in this release is fantastic. The color red seemed a lot more prominent(stripes on jackets.. etc) I will probably sit down and watch the whole thing this weekend.

Who do we have to thank for this release - Lionsgate or StudioCanal?
