The door swings both ways as I use the Panny's processing to actually de-sharpen the Fifth Elephant UHD for example, along with other BDs that have been smacked badly with edge enhancement where the high/mid frequency filters can reduce the visible halos.



The OPPO's sharpening is far too blunt a tool, to use a contrary simile. Just off the top of my head Cruise gets obvious halos around him in the wide shot when he's sitting on the mountain watching the sea water machines in the distance, and it also puts some blatant ringing along the letterbox bars whereas the Panny's Edge Correction cancels out the ringing. As always, some people are more sensitive to certain things than others so I don't expect everyone to see what I see, like with Deadpool 2's theatrical UHD disc having been softened slightly. And yet it's there alright...

Can't see those issues on my Samsung. Curious if Sony's processing just doesn't mix well with what Oppo does, especially the widescreen bars.

Either way, using the sharpening on the oppo I was able to really get that good feeling from this 4k hdr version that I didn't get last year when I spear headed the bashing of this disc. Imo it's unwatchable without sharpening it up. Unless you've never seen the Blu Ray.

Darbee is not HDMI 2.0 so it wont work with 4K displays

I just saw 4K Oblivian at Target for $10 Bucks? Is that a typo. I regret not picking it up now. Will go back tomorrow to see if it's still there.

Went to my local store today. The shelf tag said $15, but I grabbed a copy and took it to the price scanner which said it wasn’t in the system. I tried to ask for help, but some blue hair in Electronics was complaining about AT&T being too expensive, not having a smartphonr in his house, etc. I gave up and decided it wasn’t worth the drama.

Watched UHD last night. PQ is excellent, clean and crisp. AQ is filled with sonic goodness.
