I turned hdr off and it helped a bit. It is like there is a veil pulled over this movie and Im looking for more information(clothing, hair, etc) from scene to scene. I feel like im watching a dvd at times. Still watching and going from chapter to chapter between the 2. Comparing blue tints, 2007 better. The brighter lights at night make the black levels and blue tint on the 2007 version stand way out above the 4K. There are times I wish there were some scenes in the 2007 version muted because of some blown out images from time to time, but id rather deal with that than almost falling asleep because of the lack of brightness in this new and "improved" version. I think the only good thing about the 4K is the sharpness. Its very nice. Also, this may be helpful to some, but hdr makes this movie run at 60hz. I noticed motion flaws throughout the movie. I changed my player to run at 60 instead of 24 and it still didnt work. Turned off hdr, put player back at 24 and voila, smooth as butter.
I have absolutely no issue running it at 24hz with HDR.

Geoff you thinking of creating your own HALLOWEEN audio remux like you did with The THING?! That was fantastic and still watch it occasionally regardless of owning the Arrow & SF ; )

It always sounded like "What's the boogeyman" or something bizarre.

You think that line is infuriating, trying to understand what she's saying.......

I know this is a Halloween 1 thread, but throw in Halloween 2.

When the nurse and Loomis are leaving with the sheriff and she tells Loomis that Laurie's Michael Myers sister (the Strode adoption, etc), Loomis gets freaked out and says something I have never been able to figure out:

"--------------------------- doing in Haddonfield... he killed one sister, now he's trying to kill the other........."

I laugh every time I watch it as I cannot figure out what in the hell he is saying

To be fair. The line reading is nowhere near as infuriating as the logic of that plot development. - We're driving away from the manhunt so that there's no more bad publicity for the governor's office. I might as well tell you the big secret and the key to Michael's motives, which the governor chose to tell me, a nurse, but not the doctor sent to recover him, now that we're not in touch with the cops for whom it might prove useful in tracking him down. By the way, when I tell you this, don't bother telling the state trooper to call Haddonfield Sheriff's office on the two way to warn them to get to the hospital just yet. Lets wait until we get there and the sh has truly hit the fan.

Lol. And also, other then the TV version of Halloween 2, the scenes are screwed up as the camera shows the sheriff's car driving to the hospital and not away from.

Gonna have to really check out the original 2007 BD this year now to refresh myself with the disc (I never liked it compared to the THX DVD); thanks for your thoughts.

Thanks.

It always bothered me (the sped-up audio) but I suppose I could understand "getting used to it" and adding "tension"...

Lots of people in this thread with whacked out settings or poor HDR, spreading FUD to mislead the masses. Bums me out.

EF9500 no Dolby Vision. This is 1st issue ive had running hdr. 1st chapter of when Michael is peeping on his sister and her "boyfriend"(that apparently gets off in a full 10 seconds). When Michael cruises back and forth from back to front to back of house and just before he steps in the back door there is a really nice stutter sequence here. After running this chapter over and over again is when I disengaged hdr. When I turned it back on my tv flashed 2160p60, so I thought I would engage 60hz on my 4k player. That didnt work either, so I turned off hdr and put it back to 24. It worked flawlessly after. Reading other's issues it could be that my tv has an older algorithm for employing hdr, I dont know.

My 65" Element TV, that was $199 on Black Friday, plays HDR just fine. Thank you very much.

Maybe that’s why the original soundtrack that was released on CD has that added thumping techno-sounding drum beat to the main title. Loomis was originally going to say “Welcome to the club, baby!” before that line got changed.

I still dig it too. The HD DVD transfer wasn't as janky as Shout's nor as soft as Arrow's, and it lacks the DNR and dirt removal of the Uni Blu-ray. Love the colour on that transfer.

I'll see what I can do with Halloween but not being able to rip 4K discs myself means I've got to look out for a rip....elsewhere. And I don't want no re-encoded shit either, it's gotta be 1:1.

With regard to Halloween II--now that it's in the mix of this thread--would it be reasonable to conclude that Dean Cundey and associated colorists would have done their best to recreate the look of Halloween for the sequel? If that were true, it would suggest that the warmer 2007 blu and THX dvd are closer to Halloween's original saturation, timing, luminance, etc....as opposed to the more, err, lugubrious modern look of the 35th and UHD.

The current HD master for HALLOWEEN II is almost 20 years old. Not a great source to judge the new transfer against.
