Well then why would you hope there isnt a slipcover if you know you can just take it off?

I just tried Scorpion's standard Opera release this eve. I live in Australia so this was an import for me. The picture is phenomenal. But the sound is below par, though not by being unclear. Basically, someone's pushed the noise reduction software too hard. There are all the distinct artifacts: a watery quality to the sound, 'the glassies', 'space monkeys', etc. Which is obviously disappointing. A film like this really brings it out because it has lots of opera singing with high, held tones. And it's there in both the 5.1 and 2.0.

I've noticed this happen more than once with releases of Italian films from different folks working in this market. e.g. 88 Films' Delirium has been treated like this, and sounds bizarrely sterile when nobody is talking. Probably because all the room ambience is gone. And if I recall correctly, their (edit: Zombie Creeping Flesh) as well.

I assume what's usually going on is that whoever's applying the noise reduction is trying to remove absolutely all background hiss. Well, if that can't be done without damaging the source material, they should back off the reduction and accept what gains can be made cleanly. If they can't hear when artifacts come in and are damaging the source, someone who can should be doing the mastering instead.

I'm surprised none of the reviews I read of this disc online have picked this up. I just feel I need to start talking about it more often because I'm seeing more discs like Opera where huge investment has gone into a great pic, but the audio's been damaged in a quest for less hiss.

I think that's a bit unfair. Don't get me wrong, I want the Naschy titles as much as the next guy, but I don't think Walt is just ''sitting on them''... he's probably making sure the quality is the best possible before releasing.

And Scorpion has been absolutely killing it with the horror titles recently... some of us are excited for stuff like Gas Pump Girls too.

That being said, I'm right there with you... BRING ON THE NASCHYS !!!

I'd rather have Walt put out the titles that have had proper QC done and are ready to go rather than rush to meet a particular holiday or release window. Scorpion is learning from their mistakes and just keep getting better and better imo. I'm sure the Naschy titles will be worth the wait.

Scorpion is doing quality work. An announcement like this is huge for a multitude for reasons. Walt is probably working on the Naschy titles as we speak. Boutique labels can't and shouldn't rush releases. Walt will do the titles justice. Steve Bond and crew will drop a "Terrible Vulture" on you for this comment.

Walt take your time and explore this genre. I am super excited for this. If you released "Malibu Bikini Shop", I would be over the moon. It's my ultimate comfort food movie.

I have to thank Walt for the re-issue of Giallo in Venice. I hadn't been following releases as closely for the past few months, and I missed out on the first release.

Hi,

I have not posted in quite some time; the reason being I was admitted to an emergency room and they had to perform a spinal surgery on me, it was for a spinal cord abscess/SCA, a very rare and deadly infection. I just got out of the Intensive Care Unit, and been here for almost a week, but I cannot really type and am not the best at moving my hands, so I am using the voice recognizer on Android. I'm not ignoring everyone, I'm just unable to communicate much at the moment. I will be back in full force, though, so thanks for your patience.
