LOL.

It's too much to take a risk on for me; if anything goes wrong, I'm SOL with regard to the money, which we just can't really part with right now anyway. It really, really SUCKS being a freelancer because the income just isn't there, and my wife's full time job picks up the slack big time, but for the most part we're constantly trying to figure out where funds are coming from...but that's a discussion for another time...

Appreciate the heads up about that player's discount, though.

Ok, I understand better now. Seems like a cheaper 4K UHD player with good build quality would be better for you. Like the Panasonic UB900.

Well, as I said, we may be able to swing the 820 via our BB card -- we're already paying for the new Samsung display on it -- which is why I wanted to find a player that is sold via their network (even if it's through the Magnolia division).

If I were in the market for a new UHD player this Pio @ $699 would probably be it. Alas, I'm not in the market for a new UHD player.

Do you like Samsung disc players? They have some 4K UHD disc players can be had for less than $100 used or $300 new. Your display is Samsung.

I've said this before, but I'm looking for something above those $200 players and under the UBER-premium flagships...and I don't care for the Samsungs, LGs, Sonys, etc.

I understand my display is a Samsung, but aside from some remote command matching for functions and such, matching up brands doesn't hold much weight with me; I never saw any performance enhancements using same-branded gear, and the goal for me is solid DVD, BD and 4K BD playback.

Looks like the UB820 model is your best bet for now since you did not want to risk buying the LX500 on massdrop. I don't have the UB820 just the UB900 but I'd love to fire up the UB820 and see what the HCX processor does better. The UB900 already has amazing DVD, BD and 4K BD playback.

In a week we will know who is getting jacked.
You will get it (the product; Pioneer LX500) but don't expect express subito presto extra fast premium delivery.
It is a slower delivery time period with Massdrop, that's all.

* For $699 right now this is the solidest (soldado) Universal 4K BR player (10.3kg/22.7lbs) on the market; built like a tank, and universal to boot (SACD & DVD-Audio playback). But that sale ends on the 25th. It sure is a very nice looking solid player, and the price is sweet.

So given the 820 is equivalent, I'd expect the same optical components. The UB9000 is supposed to have a higher quality optical drive, so I'm interested from that perspective. However it is still an unknown and a risk.

The pioneer elites however have from day one been a generational player, so you get one and it'll do you for the remainder of the life of the format... And optically I don't think I've heard complaints.

I'm struggling as the pioneer is a lot more for me in Australia than the UB9000 wlll be, plus the 9000 does seem to have better tone mapping. The pioneer tone mapping is an unknown. Plus you can get a region free hardware kit for the pio already.

I also love the Pana subtitle luminance control... I'd miss that. I'm starting to think I should get just an 830 for UHD, and a pio for blu ray... Just a stupid cost here.

I noticed with the massdrop listing it has been stuck on 10 sold for almost a day now. I wonder if that was the max quantity limit or it's just that no one else is buying it.

"solidest"? as in "most solid"? Is not "soldado" (soldier) but "mas solido"
Can't help it if Spanish is my first language

Thx for the solid correction. You are a trooper.

In French Soldado is Soldat (Soldier)
Solid with an "e" @ the end ... solide.

@ 22.7 pounds the Pioneer Elite LX500 is more than two times heavier than the discontinued Oppo 203 @ 9.5 pounds.

Amazon (and other retailers) have it @ $999 right now (LX500), including Robert.
And Massdrop of course @ $699, until the 25th.

And Halloween is coming up, and Black Friday is coming up, and Christmas, and Boxing Day, and the New Year, and Easter 2019, and ... the best is yet to come up.

It's a beautiful blue planet we live on.
