Doctor Who : The Day of the Doctor 3D Blu-ray (2013) [Region Free]

Can anyone tell me why all the episodes in the complete Doctor Who Blu-ray Gift set (with sonic screedriver) are about 2 minutes longer than the individual release of the rprevious DVD or Blu-ray copies? The previous copies had edited versions? The exist edited versiosn? I have never watched Doctor Who on TV and bougth season 1 on DVD, the Complete David Tannat years set and season 5 and 6 on blu-ray. I did a quick compare between the versiosn and all the episodes in the complete set are longer than the previous idividual releae (yes even the Christamas special and even longuer than the blu-ray releases).

I can'y verify for season 7 because I haven't bought it seperately, but I wager it is the same, Just for longer episodes I'm glad that I bought the pricey complete set. Now I'm worried that the complete season 8 or 50th anniversary doctor Who on bly-ray will be edited versions.

Does anyone know the explanation for the different length of the episodes.

Verify for yourself and pass the word to all Doctor Who fan... longer episodes in complete set.

Agree 100%. 3D was really impressive. Hard to believe a title like this made as a holiday special exceeds the 3D on so many theatrical releases from this past year save for Pacific Rim and Gatsby.

I've only seen a handful of episodes, but didn't find it hard to follow along plotwise.

Highly recommended.

Perhaps it's due to the different frame rate british television shoots at?

I think you need to have a past history of viewing this show to get it. Though they explain things through out I still don't get exactly what was going on plot wise.

Anyway on to the 3D. I think this is one of the best live action 3D from the modern era. Is it perfect? Are any modern live action 3D movies? I'd probably say the 3D is comparable to Hugo. I will even say it is a notch above Hugo when it comes to the frequency of stereo roundness in shots. So this gets the thumbs up from me. Despite not fully understanding what was happening all the time I did enjoy it.

Sounds really good for the 3D, thanks for the reviews. I see John Hurt is in this one also; great actor.

Wow!! I'm going to have to find this title now. I have never seen one episode of this series but if it has strong 3D, I'm all in!!

Just picked up my copy tonight at Barnes and Noble for $14.99 with their 50% off British tv sale. I had pre-ordered it earlier in the week but it seems to be backordered from B&N, but luckily I found it in another store in stock. I haven't seen it yet so I'm looking forward to it, especially in 3D.

Actually, it started in 1963 (hence the 50th anniversary) - it has gone from SD black-and-white to HD 3-D in those 5 decades

I'm tempted to answer -- yes.

The original broadcast on TV as a special (2D and 3D broadcast), but there was a very brief theatrical presentation of the 3D (possibly one day in each country though I can't find proof). For a DW, this was very high budget and it shows all around -- it plays and appears designed to be an uninterrupted movie than a long episode. The quality is certainly higher than anything that came before and mostly since.

For $5 it is certainly worth it. I wish I had seen this in the theater. Some really nice strong 3D(was filmed in 3D). A feature length movie that stands on its own.
