Im going to blame Comcast for the football game. Lot of people on AVS who don't have the tv like to say this TV looks like its for games and live sports. Well, 2nd week watching football here and the juddering is bad, even with Smoothness all the way up.

regardless, if plugged into a power outlet, damage is still possible (unlikely, but possible)

This happened at my old place with my old laptop. Wouldn't detect the router even though every other device could. I would unplug it and plug it back in |

I have this problem occasionally with a Spectrum provided Sagemcom router. I can leave the modem on... just restarting the router does the trick. Too much connects to it and it needs a reboot every so often because it’ll start dropping devices.

Im leaving the Z9F club.
Long story short, I got rid of my first one because of light bleed along the right side. Second one has a small spot of light leaking on the bottom edge, and I found the local dimming algorithms are processing black screen end credits sequences with 4K UHD Bluray discs very oddly... I get some clouding in between credits when the screen is completely black. Before the next credit comes on I actually see the clouding pattern change. And some movies exhibit this behavior while others dont. Dark Knight Rises 4K UHD Bluray was the worst offender, but playing the same movie’s end credits through Vudu with dolby vision? Looked fine. Thought it was a player issue... so tested the disc on my Xbox One X. No problem if I have YCC 4:2:2 selected in the Xbox, but disable it and the issue is there again. I contacted Sony support and got kicked up to tier two. They aren’t listening. They read from a script and said all was normal. Tried contacting Sony support on Twitter to see if they can kick my information to the engineers and they had some other scripted moron call me on the phone and read the ‘this is normal’ crap. Not going to hold on to a $3500 tv just to see if Sony figures this out one day. If Im going to deal with light leakage and clouding I can swallow such imperfections much easier on a television that’s half the price. Going for a 900F. |

Over 600 led’s individually controlled by the Master Backlight drive. Close to 2000 nits, still has 3D. It’s a Geoffy favorite (and mine as well.) If you’ve made your mind up, then hope it goes well. 2 G’s for this tv is a lifetime opportunity. ![]() |

I can run black screen test patterns and tortute content and they play fine. It’s more to do with the credits sequences for some reason. It sounds like a processing thing Sony needs to work out to me... why are zones activating and changing when the image is black? I tried all sorts of chroma settings and gamma settings and whatnot, but the only thing that helped was telling the XboxOne X to output at YCC 4:2:2. It’s almost like the tv isn’t sure how to handle a signal in these specific scenarios unless they’re 10 bit. My player is typically an x800.... ironically a Sony which can’t do 10 bit, but rather 8 and 12. |

Sorry to hear that zupe. And I mean that, for while I was a dick to you in the HDR discussion thread - becuz I don't like people steaming in and instantly reporting everyone when they don't know what the situation is - it was nothing personal. When it comes to these sorts of shenanigans with TVs then it can be a real PITA so I hope you find something that you can get on with. Not sure the 900F is it as that will have its own backlight gremlins, and the ZD9 does too to be fair. You might have to go OLED after all.

It'd be one thing if it was just clouding I was seeing... lights that aren't uniform and can only be seen in pitch black scenes/shots, then ok. I can say, 'hey, that's clouding, no big deal'... but they clouding pattern wouldn't change. It would just 'be'. But the clouding patterns change from large swaths of the screen to just a single zone... and it's weird. Seems like a processing thing. Which also in and of itself, no big deal... firmware updates help. But Sony couldn't care less about even looking into this so, yeah, the investment is too steep to base on faith alone. Keep in mind that this isn't 'holy crap look at those clouds' bright clouds. I turn on a little bit of ambient light in my viewing environment and you can't even really tell it's there. It's also not bright enough to be picked up by my iphone camera in my pitch black environment. But when using your eyeballs in a pitch black room, it's there. And again, this only happens with 4K UHD Blu-ray discs... not all of them, just some of them, and not streaming content that's UHD with HDR. I'm certainly a little nervous about the 900F... not for any real reason other than I've had bad luck in my most recent television buying journey, and being that this is also the second time I called my retailer to be like, 'nope, take this out of here and bring me another television'... well, if there's something wrong with the 900F... unless it's immediately noticeable, they will be far less inclined to help me out in the future, so I hope the one I get is fine. By all accounts for a mid-range set that seems to do well enough for HDR, the 900F has been reviewed and recieved very well by many. Reports of DSE on that are generally positive, moreso than any other set at least in its price range. It was actually the set I had settled on just prior to the announcement of the Z9F. And by the way, I'm totally cool with letting go of some of the nits. I've realized with the Z9F that I can't use all that brightness in my man cave anyway. 99% of my viewing is at night. Someone at 'the other forum' was measuring peak brightness and you lose about 30% when you change xtended dynamic range from high to medium, which is precisely what I was doing in order to make the image tolerable to my eyes in my dark environment. So peak for 900F is about 1000 nits? Fine. I'm cool with that. There is one thing though about this downgrade that excites me... while the Z9F black levels were perceptibly fine, I do notice when I lay in bed at night and watch my 2016 M series Vizio, that black levels are much stronger even on that. I'm going to enjoy having a television with better native contrast again. |
