The encode on the last release was pretty terrible.

It's definitely a SC title. Whether Kino or one of the other two labels who picked up SC deals releases it is another matter.

The Pianist is with Focus Features/Universal in the US. But Kino has a deal with Universal as well, so it's still a possible release from them. Just not from the SC deal.

I always wish that Kino would release some Japanese titles on blu-ray, especially titles from the 60's and 70's. So much good stuff there.

The only major Japanese title that I believe StudioCanal has the NA distribution rights to is RAN, but I could be wrong.

I don't think the title is with Universal anymore. When Kino did the deal with Universal a few months back, I asked them about this title and they said it's no longer with Universal or something along those lines.

Can anybody point me toward a list of what movies SC has the US rights to so I can start private speculation?

Argh. Bummer, the 4K remastered version of RAN has been available overseas for years and Lionsgate seems to have no interest in releasing it here.

Interesting. Well, if US rights to The Pianist reverted back to SC I also hope this is the one 2000s title.
