This is the power conditioner I'm looking at: www.amazon.com/1-5KVA-Conditioner-Ba.../dp/B000G5YO9W.

PRODUCT FEATURES:Adjustable voltage sensitivity;Adjustable voltage-transfer points;Boost and Trim Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR);Dataline Surge Protection;DC voltage trigger;Disconnected battery notification;Hot-swappable batteries;Intelligent battery management;Isolated filter banks;LCD display;Power conditioning;Resettable circuit breakers;USB connectivity;User-replaceable batteries.

I know it's a little more expensive than the other ones mentioned here, but I like the idea of having a battery back-up for my rear projection tv. Does anyone have any first-hand experience with this one?

Nice! Thanks, just ordered one. I'll risk going with a new online retailer for that price. They are a very reputable audio review site but the store side of it is very new. I immediately received 2 emails confirming my purchase so that's a good sign.

I'm still waiting for mine but you should get yours right away since they told me they were shipping from Minneapolis. I'm surprised they still have some in stock - They told me last week they were selling about 3 dozen a day and should be out soon, so it's good you got one!!

After reading this I immediately went out and purchased a Monster Power Center 3600 MKII

Are they really garbage though I got a sweet deal on it got it for $150 and its listed as $500-$700. I'm just wondering if I should have looked into a power conditioner or something different then this?

Quick question regarding power surges. I live in an apartment and I have the Monster HTS-3500 Power conditioner. However, it is plugged into an outlet that is apparently not grounded (grounded indicator light is off). Would I get any sort of protection from power surge if my outlet is not grounded?

Hell yeah! I did see that, but thanks for making it known for the others who will probably purchase one too.

get the outlet fixed.... although the neutral ( white ) connects back at your main, it is a bad thing and usually an easy fix

I've found an outlet in the kitchen that seems to be grounded. I'm using a heavy duty extension cord (14Gauge/15A) to connect to that outlet. I'll probably try to get the non-grounded outlet fixed later. Thanks.

I just called them. Apparently they have run out with more on the way either today or tomorrow. They're hoping to ship those tomorrow or the next day.

I canceled my order. I found a factory sealed black one for $200 shipped on eBay. I really wanted the black one anyway. You can't find them for under $299 anywhere.

Well, I'm NOT a master electrician, but I AM an engineer... and while being a master electrician may qualify you to make statements and or comments about how dirty or clean power is... or how you can do things to clean the power up, but with all due respect, being a master electrician really doesn't translate well to electronics.

I agree that power coming off the grid here in the states is not perfect, HOWEVER, having lived overseas, it is much better than other places.

Here are some things people are kind of forgetting...
  • Consumer electronics are DESIGNED to compensate for a certain amount of "uncleanliness" in the power.
  • Power conditioners make a right pretty waveform (whether you need it or not) the real question is, does this right pretty wave form really do anything for you?
  • Power conditioners protect against INCREASES on voltage (surge) but the amount of a DECREASE in voltage they can cover is limited by the size of the power caps (if they even have big power caps)
  • Brown outs, can be very destructive to electronics, if it is a slow enough onset, it can fool the power subsystems.
  • All the power conditioning on the planet ain't worth crap if the power goes out, crashing your HTPC (requiring a re-boot and possibly causing data loss), crashing your satellite receiver (requiring re-acquisition), and crashing your projection TV (causing uncontrolled, and uncooled shut down of the projector bulb)
  • All good UPSs offer surge protection.

That said:
Do I consider myself an audiophile? Yes
Do I have a sunfire system? No
Can I tell the difference between .08% THD vs. .07% THD? No.
Do I have a power conditioner... HELL NO!

The question we each need to ask ourselves is, what are our goals, and what are the REAL reason we drop hundreds on power conditioning.

For most of us (98%+) a dedicated circuit with a good quality computer grade UPS is MORE than sufficient. To get a dedicated circuit, you don't even need to wire up one, you can figure out which outlets are on the circuit you are currently using, and simply avoid plugging highly capacitive or inductive loads into those other outlets (i.e. no fluorescent lights or electric motors on those outlets)

Getting power for your components that is clean and safe does not need to break the bank. But hey, if you WANT to spend hundreds on a name brand power conditioner, don't fool yourself... unless you have an audio system that costs more than mid sized car, you are REALLY getting the power conditioner so that you can say "mines bigger than yours" rather than getting one for any real audible benefit.

Just my $.02
