Mixing brands on receivers and speakers -- bad idea?

You should be just fine. Just make sure the HTIB speakers don't have a lower ohm rating than what the receiver can safely handle. For example, if your speakers are 4 ohm and your new receiver is only rated down to 6 ohm, it's probably not a good idea.
