That has to be the worst trailer I think I've ever seen. And the announcer is godawful. It's a wonder people actually went to the movie at all. Much less enjoyed it. Just based on that trailer alone.

That was the style of the times, friend. No TV, no internet, just cinema and radio and print. Movies rarely played for weeks, they played for days. Hence, every movie was sold as the greatest this, the best that, the event of the year, you'll regret it for the rest of your life if you don't see it, gentlemen in England now a-bed shall think themselves accursed they were not here and hold their manhoods cheap, etc. etc. etc.

I purchased this in 4K on itunes recently, excited by all of the positive responses here only to be surprised quite immediately at the lower quality of the itunes 4K. I'm not trying to compare it to the 4K disc, as I'm quite aware of how much better 4K discs are in general when compared to digital/streaming 4K. But has anyone noticed how blocky even the opening Tristar logo is? The simple white title font is similarly messy. I have a blazing fast internet connection and get close to perfect 4K streams with other streaming services, and also with other 4K movies I have purchased on itunes.

ST is also currently streaming for free on Amazon Prime in 4K and that stream is much cleaner and clearer than my itunes copy. The opening logo exhibits none of the blockiness apparent in the itunes copy. Has anyone here experienced this? It's annoying that the version of the film I paid for is of lesser quality than the version currently being offered free.

Don't forget that Paul Verhoeven is very left-wing, he intended those aspects to be satirical. The book was far more blatantly pro-fascist.

I think the best way to put it is that the film was attempting to subvert the themes of the book. It's amazing that Heinlein's heirs let the studio go in that direction without causing an uproar.

No blocking here with the disc and the soundtrack is amazing!

Might have just been a rough connection that day or something, who knows. If you notice compression though... and care about truly owning your media... I strongly urge you to consider disc copies in the future.

Starship Troopers 4K/Dolby Vision is messed up on iTunes... It's one of the few 4k releases on there that for some reason looks much worse than it should. Heat (1995) was another example and they've taken down the 4k version for now.

Anyway... I revisited the UHD last night. It's still in my top 3 discs of all time. Stunning PQ.

Although it was good, it was not the format-defining experience that I've seen listed here so many times so I thought it was a little bit of a letdown. I enjoyed the movie very much. But I wouldn't put it in the pantheon 4K demo discs.

First off, I think 2018 has been an astounding year for 4k UHD releases. The sheer number of excellent titles has spiked considerably, so Starship Troopers has more competition compared to even last year.

I still think it's one of my favorite 4k releases, though. Same with "A Few Good Men". I can't get the sexiness of the look of these movies in 4k out of my head.

Yeah man! 2018 was killer. It was nice to see some catalogue titles come out of the woodwork. It was also great to see the majority of new titles get a 4K release. This format is really going places. A couple of my friends even bought 4K players or televisions.

Denise Richards was absolutely gorgeous!

I agree that AFGM is hands down one of the best looking discs.

It's one of the biggest improvements over the BD there is, IMO.
