Tell that to the mom who sat behind me during Infinity War asking her son if Superman was going to save them.

Or my dad who mistook Deadpool as Spider-Man and refers to Iron Man as "metal guy."

Yes, the average moviegoer would assume Marvel isn't gonna permanently kill of their biggest money makers, but then Spider-man isn't nearly as big a moneymaker as Iron Man, so they didn't. Homecoming made less than Black Panther, and eight other MCU movies so its not the biggest earner yet. Also a lot of people needed to see Superman in the Justice League trailer to be believe he'd come back and he's the face of that cinematic universe and I've heard enough people try to convince me that with the Fox merger Marvel just killed these characters off to make room for X-Men, Deadpool and Fantastic Four movies in their schedule. It would surprise you what the "average moviegoer" thinks with these movies.

It doesn't surprise me what the "average" moviegoer thinks. It frightens me. I've dealt with enough "average" people over my life due to work and such so I know the level of stupidity we are dealing. And it is downright mind-numbingly scary. Though, I did say anyone with half a brain ( ) Most of these so-called "average" thinkers don't even have half a brain. For the rest of those out there, they know Spider-Man is a fairly big franchise and money maker for Marvel. Or they never would have put him in Bendis' Avengers (it's funny that it took a couple of big blockbusters at the box office to finally put him in the Avengers). It doesn't even but even half of average intelligence to know that won't kill Spider-Man.

As for kids, I know they're not all going to get it. Sure, there are some savvy, cynical kids out there that will see right through what Marvel is doing. But you are right. By and large, kids don't know. I knew that and was generally speaking about adults. I figured everyone here knew this as well (re kids), which is why I didn't specify. I assumed and that wasn't a good thing for me to do. I am sorry for that.

But you're talking about people who haven't got one brain cell left in their body. I am referring to the average people who have a monochrome of intelligence and can read things other than see spot run. Those people with more than half a brain knows full well Spider-Man ain't dead.

My dad's about the same way on some things. There are some things that we completely comprehend that our parents don't get at all. I had the hardest time trying to explain to my mother the differences between CD, DVD, and Blu-ray. and she was smart as a whip. She just couldn't grasp the differences. And don't get me started on 4K. I had a hard enough time with the other 3.

I'm sure the average moviegoer who isn't up to date on all things Marvel related are unaware there is a Spider-Man sequel coming out. In their minds, Spidey is dead in the MCU.

And had Sony release the FFH trailer before Endgame even hits theaters, it would spoil the fact that Peter comes back from the dead and confuse the hell out of your uninformed moviegoer as they thought he had died in Infinity War.

It's a tricky situation to be in. For both Marvel and Sony. Which is why Spider-Man should never had been killed in the first place. To avoid all this.
I agree that Spider-Man should have never been dusted in the first place.

However, when it comes to the "average moviegoer", I don't think they care if one of these characters lives or dies, or if they somehow come back. I imagine most of those moviegoers are there just to be entertained.

That sounds like a classic mom question/move. It shows interest and that she knows characters outside of the movie they're currently watching. The kid may find it funny and they will have something to talk about after too. Plus, kids can get very excited when they think they know something that their parents don't. In other words, don't just assume the mom was uninformed.

On the complete opposite side of the spectrum, I sat next to a semmingly obvious fan. He was wearing a lot of Marvel gear, including Thanos' Infinifty Gauntlet. To my surprise, he took out a travel pack of tissue before the movie started and placed it on his lap. I was in complete shock, when this young man was sobbing uncontrollably after the snap and everyone started to turn to dust. It was like he just found out his mother died. I wanted to tell him that they were all going to come back, but didn't want to ruin the expeience for him. It probably would have been like ruining Christmas for a child.

BTW, jayman3, I'm not trying to single you out, I just find what you wrote interesting.

Unless your dad is 120 years old, it's more likely that he says it because he knows it irritates you.

Last year my mom asked why Thor isn't appearing in any of the Justice League trailers.

Very true, too.

I do find it amusing/ironic about my dad confusing Deadpool as Spider-Man since it happens in the comics too

I was gently suggesting he should proofread his posts before calling other people stupid.

Spider-Man and Mysterio Are Working Together in Far From Home; Villains Revealed

Quote:
We know that Gyllenhaal plays classic Spidey villain Mysterio in the movie, but in offering a pretty substantial plot description for the movie, Batalon not only revealed that Spider-Man and Mysterio are working together in the film, but the villains are Elementals.

“It’s basically just about the kids going on a European vacation. We go to London, we go to Prague, we go everywhere. It’s just a really fun thing. There’s a lot of dynamics that go on. A lot of relationship stuff. A lot of cool funny stuff. A lot of fun stunt stuff. The main focus is for him not to be Spider-Man per se, but he gets dragged into it. But you know he reluctantly saves the world again with Mysterio. Mysterio’s a good guy in this, they’re both teaming up to kill the game, to defeat these Elemental monsters.”

In Marvel Comics lore, the Elementals are four extradimensional humanoids who wreak havoc on Earth. We don’t know how they’ll materialize in the film, but in the comics they are Hellfire (he controls flames), Hydron (controls water), Magnum (controls earth), and Zephyr (a female Elemental who can control the air).

Gyllenhaal revealed that Mysterio is recruited by Samuel L. Jackson’s Nick Fury because he knows more about the Elementals than anyone else:

“Well there are these threats to the world, the Elemental creatures, and Mysterio is someone who knows abut them and who wants to make sure that the world is safe from them, and Nick Fury asks him to come on and help because he’s the only one who really understands them in a way. And he teams up with the Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man and unfortunately he has to make him become more than just a Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.”

Yup. The people who were complaining when this rumor hit a few weeks back haven't read the original comics. It's inspired by his first appearance. Pretends to be a hero by taking down Spider-Man (people didn't know what to think of Spidey that early, if he was a menace or not) and use that good image from his deed to cover up his criminal activity.
