Maybe since its not so enthusiastic reviews and not so warm audience reactions I should add also Galveston, which is at the moment my favorite film of the year!

I still really want to see this despite the poor reviews, it looks just like my type of film!

The Hurricane Heist! When ever someone suggests my love of movies means that I have sophisticated tastes, I dispel the notion by telling them that I loved The Hurricane Heist.

Other 'unloved' films from 2018 that I thought were excellent...
The Commuter
Johnny English Strikes Again
Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
Mile 22 (except for...
[Show spoiler]the non-ending ending that will never be resolved now.
)

I'm not sure why the strangers: prey at night isn't looked upon more fondly.

it wasn't a huge success at the box office, but its one of the horror movies that had the most style this year. even if you didn't love it, it's hard to argue against the pool scene.

Fallen Kingdom, Rampage, and The Meg come to mind. All provided the fun and spectacle I look for in a monster movie. Pacific Rim Uprising was only disappointing because it could have been something so much better if the cards had fallen right, but I still didn't dislike it.

Didn't think Skyscraper and The Predator were all that bad. They were not smart films but Skyscraper was never boring and I liked the more sci-fi heavy plot with The Predator.

I've been seeing a lot more bad mouth towards Ready Player One lately too, though it's the highlight of the year to me. I wouldn't call it unpopular though.

I have no Guilty Pleasure(s). I like what I like and I don't care if anyone doesn't agree.

I looked through the movies I've seen this year in theaters and there wasn't any that are considered bad that I actually liked..

Edit: Actually, I guess I could say I liked Cloverfield Parodox, so that totally counts.

I remember kind of enjoying hotel artemis when it came out. I wouldn't go so far as to say it was great. but it hardly got any press when it came out.

I don't think it's so much about what others think, when it comes to a guilty pleasure (in any endeavor). It's more about how you feel about yourself while enjoying it.

For me, Incredibles 2, The Predator, The Nun, The Grinch, Mortal Engines
Why would anyone feel guilty over The Incredibles 2? It was solid and I thought most audiences loved it.

Yeah, but people do talk smack sometimes.

Or should say if I am excited for a movie and people crap on it and it gets bad reviews I don't care. I will still see it.

People here have told me a million times how horrible Sandler is, how horrible The Waterboy is. Do I care? Not at all. I laugh so hard every time I watch that movie.

I wasn't surprised at all. Soderbergh and Claire Foy? That's a great combo. I really enjoyed it. Soderbergh's CV speaks for itself, AFAIC. And Foy is amazing -- err, was -- amazing as the Queen.

I didn't recognize the main actors, and thought it would play out like a high school film project. I was really surprised at how brutal the plot is.

Ahh gotcha.

Well, if you ever get a chance to watch "The Crown" on Netflix, it's awesome. It stars Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth in her very early years (actually, it begins just before she becomes Queen), Matt Smith as Prince Phillip, and Vanessa Kirby is terrific as Elizabeth's sister, Princess Margaret. It's really worth at least taking a look at the first episode, even if you're totally uninterested in the Royal Family.

Foy's being replaced in S3 by Olivia Colman, which was always the plan. Age issues.
