Everyone is going to have there preference of brand. Many don't say much positive things about Vizio from what I have read. I personally have 2 Vizio's. I have their VP504F from Costco. I paid 1399 for it last summer. Last time I saw it there it was down to 1199. It has a great picture for the price and have had no issues with the set.
Just look around and see what looks good to your eyes. If you stick with a name brand you should be ok. Pioneer, Panasonic, Samsung, Sony, Vizio. That's right I put Vizio as a name brand. I believe they made HDTV affordable and got them into homes, who would not buy the more expensive brands. |

I personally don't think it's bad. There are TV's out there that are better. But you will pay for it. I did not feel like putting out the extra $600 for the Panasonic. To me the picture quality on it was not worth $600.
Only my opinion. There will be people who reply that know way more about this stuff than me. |

Buy what you can resonable afford. If Vizio is it then who gives a damn what others think. Sorry I feel alot better knowing im not working for my electronics.
If you want a more unbiased approach to the question you should check out websites like cnet.com or even consumer report, but not here. Last edited by Crimy; 02-06-2009 at 12:23 PM. |

The newest Consumer Reports has TVs featured. I like to go for a combination of value and quality. I recently owned a Sony Bravia LCD and then a Pioneer Kuro plasma tv. I got both at reduced prices. I prefer the plasma for watching movies. The LCD looked great for Pixar animation and sporting events in a bright room.
I believe the quality gap is narrowing and beware of phrases like "this tv blows that one away" when making a decision. It is a matter of preference. I really don't see that much of a difference between tvs in the showrooms. The differences are subtle. They may be more pronounced in your home. I would go with the latest version. I got the Sony Bravia and I noticed the blacks were somewhat lacking. I checked the box and it said 2007 although I bought the TV in August 2008. The newer 2008 models looked much better in contrast. A review said that most everything was improved in the newer Sony. If I had been sold the current Sony I would have probably kept that. There are a lot of good values now and I would stick with name brands like Sony, Pioneer, Samsung, Panasonic, or Vizio. |

get a Panny, best bang for your buck.
u can get larger sizes then Lcds for less. could be different in todays market though, not up to date with LCD prices. the panny i bought looked like crap at frys, but at best buy it was one of the best looking sets. |

I did a lot of research myself and recently picked up the new Samsung 950 series LCD. I compared the Pioneer and Panasonic plasmas and the Samsung really held its own when watching the same programming. The black level is simply amazing for an LCD and I would say its almost if not as dark as the Pioneer Kuro's. The only bad part is the price....very pricey but so are the good plasmas.

if you want best picture price, go for Panasonic Plasma. They offer best picture for your money. Plasma has much higher black color, color ratio, and speed. However if you gonna put that tv near a window or a lot of sunlight reflect, stick with LCD, it has less reflection. value brand of lcd are Sharp and LG.
