Seems like a silly question but...
Imo, they are literally the BEST looking discs out of any other studio. I don't understand how one studio can make discs that are stunning while many other studios pale in comparison. If only Sony had the rights to Mission Impossible: Fallout ![]() |

While Sony's newer releases are absolutely stellar, I find that the biggest gap between them and other studios is found on catalog releases. Leon, A Few Good Men, Groundhog Day, among others, are as close to flawless catalog releases as you can get. Fox has put out some catalog titles that can compete, but they've only got a handful of them in total.

Die Hard, The Predator, and Predator 2, all look worthy of being compared to Sony’s catalog releases. I would love to get both Heat and Speed from Fox this year. But I think what does make Sony so great is, they give every title, new or old, the same treatment. That’s pretty impressive. The fact that a film like Air Force One looks substantially better than something like Grease or Jurassic Park, is absolutely insane. |

OP might be asking a rhetorical question but I think the main answer is because Sony also sells TVs and players so they have a vested interest in offering the best looking content to show off.
Also, since they develop much of the technology the industry uses, they are able to use top of the line equipment on their own films/TV shows. |

This, this, this. Zero DNR means insane levels of fine detail that most other studios scrub away. Even if the DNR pass is very mild, you still see it (IMO) VERY easily when watching in UHD. It boggles my mind that it keeps being done.

If it is Patton, they'd better do a new transfer of The Longest Day to go with it AND release the ****er on UHD, seeing as this is the 75th anniversary year of the Normandy invasion and that the BD is one of the very worst DNR abominations I've ever seen.

That's what I thought, there's nothing wrong with MI Fallout. If Sony had paid for it but it was made by the exact same people then it would look exactly the same as it does now.
Anyhoo, as to why Sony's stuff looks so good, it's because they lace the discs with angel dust: as soon as you touch the disc to put it in the player, you trippin'... |
