On a Blu-ray player, most will play CDs, DVDs, and of course - Blu-ray Discs.

To say they are the same is wrong.
They are all 12cm optical discs.
They are all different in format, what they can do, and the storage capacities.

Here is a disc.
Why doesn't this play in my DVD player?
Because - it's a Blu-ray Disc.
