Didn't even think to try that. Thanks. I know what I'll be doing later tonight.

I know that it has to be manually activated, and that is my gripe. I'm saying that ever since they added Dolby vision support 7 or so months ago it has to be manually activated via the menus depending on the disc you are playing. They have not put out a firmware fix to automatically enable it.

i am not that smart but can you tell me if you just leave dolby vision on what matter does it make? does it affect anything? does it hurt anything? so can you explain a little more about what your saying? thanks have a great day.

It can cause a variety of different negative consequences depending on your display, but the simple explanation is that the display receives the flag from the X700 saying a DV source is being passed, causing the display to apply the image parameters it has built-in specifically for DV images, which are not the correct settings for non-DV content.

Wish I read this a lot earlier, but just returned my X700.

I should really do this too and add it as a routine so I can just say "Alexa, Play Dolby Vision Movie". That's a great idea.

I do agree it's a little silly to have to keep track of my DV titles and go on and off, but that's life.

I don't think they will do an update because a new UHD player is shown on there website that looks close to the X800 and has Dolby vision. Personally I think Dolby Vision is a gimmick. I don't see a big difference between HDR10 and DV . Maybe a small difference , but DV is 12 bit and TV panels are still 10 bit. To me its the placebo effect Same thing with a 4K TV with HDMI 2.1,whats the point ,8K would be another thing. HDMI cables another area where were getting ripped off .To pay for Monster cables at that price is a joke and does nothing to improve the signal. Gold plated ,come on ! really . My point guys is there is technology that is a game changer and others are just to get your hard earned money. A good example is Dolby enabled speakers bouncing off the ceiling type, does it work? yep if your ceilings are flat. But elevation speakers do work,no doubt.

Hello everybody. I have a problem with my X700. Watched Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon 3 nights ago and after about 1 hour & 53 minutes the disc froze. Had to eject the disc and after reinserting it, it played fine from where it had frozen. So I thought my disc was probably defect. Last 2 nights I watched Interstellar and Batman Begins and unfortunately the exact same thing happened. Does anyone else have this problem? It only seems to happen after about 1 hour and 50 minutes and only with UHDs. Like the player is tired of playing the disc and needs a break, haha.

That actually is a good idea haha. Assuming the X700 starts up with the cursor in the same place every single time...

I watched the LOTR movies recently and tried the forced DV on the first scene of Fellowship, didn't like it looked similar to when player upscales compared to TV. And the teal color was even more pronounced.

I can't really tell any diff so far from HDR10 and DV honestly, still like seeing the DV logo come up tho we don't have a DV cinema locally so always wanted to see a movie at one so it's cool I have my own! Ready Player One did look and sound amazing tho

Do you mean from the homescreen? To overcome this, I added something like 3 "Direction Ups" and 3 "Direction rights". The nice thing is that the screen does not wrap around to the beginning. So, for however many spots you have on your homescreen, just add enough ups and rights to get to the settings button from the bottom left option. Be sure to add some "Delays" after adding your "selects" (it takes a second or 2) when you enter the settings/screen settings/etc.

The same applies when you get to the DV option. The selection does not wrap, so going up always goes to the top option (forget if it is "on" or "off") and down takes you to the bottom option.

Actually Dolby Vision on UHD Bluray and streaming services is 10 bit 4:2:0, not 12 bit.

The main benefit of DV is the dynamic meta data which optimates HDR playback on individual DV display devices.

So speaking of Dolby Vision, it seems that all blu-rays are being forced to Dolby Vision. I have all the default settings, the HDR switching set to auto, Dolby Vision on... but it seems that movies that are not dolby Vision or at least I believe they are not are still showing Dolby Vision on my TV? Examples, Planet Earth 2(when it plays), Mad Max, The Dark Knight, and Ant Man and the Wasp. Pretty sure that Mad Max and Dark Knight aren't Dolby Vision so I am wondering what's up. Do I have to go in and turn off Dolby Vision for non-disks, I figured it would switch automatically based on the disk.

No, it doesn't switch automatically. Yes, you have to disable it manually.

I thought I read reports in here that the X700 would at least identify if a disc has been encoded with Dolby Vision if you press the DISPLAY button while the disc is playing, so that you could then go into the X700's video menu and manually turn on DV (instead of having to rely on the tiny DV logo on the back of the disc case). Have people found this to be true? I recently got Atomic Blonde and noticed that the X700 does not identify the DV encoding in this title...

Pressing the Display button with DV mode on will show the following:

DV encoded disc

HDR10 encoded disc:

Turning DV mode off and pressing Display will identity everything as HDR10, DV encoded or not.
