Definitely in for the Hannibal upgrade. The first time I visited Florence I went on a walking tour and the guide made a point to show us the "bowels in or bowels out" balcony.

Yes, the 4KUHD release includes both the 4K and Blu-ray Disc.

There's also a separate BLU only release.

Does “HDR and SDR color grade” simply mean the UHD will have HDR and the BD will have SDR? Or does this mean the UHD will have a choice between the two?

Also, the cover font being the movie’s title card is a very nice touch but it does look a little... cheap (for lack of a better word) with the outlining and overall way it’s stylized.

There's been controversy for many Warner remastered Blus included in some of UHDs for having a poor SDR downgrade from an HDR master ("The Matrix" having quite blown out highlights on the remastered Blu for example). I assume that this statement means that the film has also been properly colored graded for standard Blu Ray in addition to the HDR UHD.

Don't mind infiniteCR, he thinks HDR is the devil's work.

SDR is for the BD release, HDR is for the 4KUHD release.

Frank
Would it not push the 4k sales, leaving out a stand-alone BD release too? The 4k has a BD for those waiting to upgrade.

Yeah, after watching HDR for over a year, I've fleshed out my preferences. I know you and some others like the new extra vividness HDR tends to bring, and that's fine Geoff, but me and others can prefer closer to the theatrical grade and be happy when we are catered too as well. Thankfully Kino still provides the goods.

I know FAREWELL FRIEND (Bronson/Delon) has been talked about here but was it announced or was it just a guess?

I think it's very probable given they have 3 more Charles Bronson titles to announce, as well as 2 Delon titles in their SC deal.

They are just doing what everyone else is doing. HDR for UHD and SDR for BR.

Many people are going to opt for the 4K for future proofing but many people have no desire to upgrade.

Has Hannibal become a cult film over the years? I've only seen it once a few years ago, but I didn't really care for it and thought the consensus was that it was a definite misfire.

On that basis, it seems like an odd first UHD film to me, but everyone seems excited about it. Do people here generally like the film? Has it had a critical resurgence?

The latter is me. I'm fine with just staying with blu-rays. I'm not a videophile by any means and 4K is too expensive for an upgrade I can't even see (I don't have a 4K TV or player, nor the desire to spend more for either).

Good for those excited, but I'm glad Kino is releasing a blu-only edition. I'm passing on this title, but I hope they keep doing this for future 4K releases.

Almost all the UHDs I have just have an older released BR included...not a remaster with a proper new SDR grade??

It's one of those kind of polarizing films; people love it or hate it. It does make some sense for it being a logical first in that it's from a popular series (Hannibal Lecter), director (Ridley Scott) and from a genre that's an easy sell (Horror). I think more people are excited (myself included) that one of the major boutiques is stepping into the UHD game.

I disagree that it’s polarizing. I have no doubt that there are people who love it but not any more than any other bad movie.
