Just like Hannibal, it's a newer film, a box office hit and was previously released on Blu-ray.

Not for a while, the bigger ones will be released in theaters through our repertory division and then on Blu-ray.

I thought that might be the case. Daily's had visions of it being an older film (and by old I mean like 40-50 years) but youse guys still wanna make sure you get the maximum exposure for what I'm guessing is an expensive product.

If Hannibal bombs will it affect the release of the second title or are you fully committed at this stage to that second one? And will it require a new transfer?

We will know the numbers for HANNIBAL by early April, so that's when we'll decide to either go through with the second title or not. HANNIBAL will be carried in Best Buy stores, so it's a good start.

Becky Sharp (1935) Color 84 Minutes 1.37:1 Not Rated
In the years just preceding Waterloo, best friends Becky Sharp (Miriam Hopkins, Trouble in Paradise) and Amelia Sedley (Frances Dee, I Walked with a Zombie) graduate from Miss Pinkerton’s Academy for Girls. The wealthy Amelia invites the penniless Becky into the bosom of her family home while the manipulative Becky plots her climb up the social ladder. Entirely lacking in scruples and unhampered by conscience or morality, Becky ascends to the very pinnacle of society, crushing anyone who stands in her path. Set against the backdrop of the Napoleonic Wars, Rouben Mamoulian’s (Love Me Tonight, The Mark of Zorro) adaptation of Thackeray’s (The Memoirs of Barry Lyndon, Esq.) epic novel Vanity Fair was the first film to be produced in three-strip Technicolor. Screenplay by Francis Edward Faragoh (Little Caesar, Frankenstein) and co-starring Cedric Hardwicke (The Lodger), Billie Burke (The Young in Heart), Nigel Bruce (Suspicion) and Alan Mowbray (I Wake Up Screaming).

Maybe I'm too curious but could you give us a number of units you would need to sell before you go through with the summer title?

Unfortunate to hear it won't be for awhile, although thank you for your reply.

One of the most important releases of the year, possibly the decade. While I don't think Becky Sharpe is a great film - it's a very good one and worth it just for Rouben Mamoulian's usual excellent directorial flair and that Miriam Hopkins is always wonderful in any of her 30s films - this is such a gigantic milestone both in the history of color cinema and also in home video. This has never had an acceptable release on home video.

Pre-ordering as soon as it's up.

One question: any possibility of adding the 1934 short film La Cucaracha as an extra? It was the first 3-strip live-action short film and seemed to have been restored by UCLA. It's on a Roan Group DVD of Dixiana, but that release seems to be at least 20 years old.

@Kino Lorber Insider

Any plans of re-issuing past Kino releases in 4K?

Probably not. At least not for a while. The only classics we would think about releasing are the Leone/Eastwood trilogy.

You mean two down, Geoffy.

And if the Hannibal UHD BD will be in Best Buy, I will order from them, either online or through picking it up in the store. I hope they have it in-store on release date.

Only titles that seem anywhere likely to get 4Ks would be Marty, The Thomas Crown Affair, Barton Fink, and Kundun. And that's just on film significance (Best Picture winner, big star like Steve McQueen, big directors like the Coens or Scorsese). I omitted stuff like Brick because it was likely done with 2K and I really doubt Kino is going to want to bother with 4K for an upscale.

Wow, those look like a lot of fun.

I hope Kino puts them out on disk too.

I'd love to see Dwain Esper's MANIAC made the leap to HD someday as well. It's in a class by itself.
