Cool, and they got Martin as well. Figures, since I decided to pick up the Japanese disc not too long ago, lol. O'well, I'll probably still nab these up depending on the extras.

If they got these two, wonder if they got or are looking into getting the Night Flier as well. Rubenstein owns that one too if I'm not mistaken.

Like any self-respecting horror fan, Dawn is a favorite and I'll happily bid the serviceable AB blu a fond farewell for being there till the real thing came along. But I'm REALLY excited for Martin because I haven't seen it since on a friend's copy in 2000 maybe?

Yeah I just got the Japanese Blu-Ray for Martin too.

I'll still get both of these based on Second Sight's track record alone...

GEORGE A ROMERO’S DAWN OF THE DEAD is coming to 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in the UK and will feature ’Theatrical’, ‘Cannes’ and ‘Argento’ cuts!! We will also be releasing on standard Blu-ray together with our Blu-ray release of MARTIN. Many thanks to producer Richard P Rubinstein for allowing us access to the original elements, which includes the original camera negative for Dawn and dupe negative for Martin. New 4K scans are underway at Final Frame in New York which will be followed by grading and extensive restoration supervised by DP Michael Gornick. It will then be over to David Mackenzie at Fidelity in Motion for mastering and encoding. Currently slated for a late summer release, more news to follow….

Has Second Sight done their own transfers before, and if so how were they?

So Rubinstein has some sort of grudge against US home video labels or something that he refuses to let someone in the States release this? Or did Second Sight actually pay the guy the 6 figure fee to license the film? I'm very confused here.

If this news doesn't inspire a spate of region-free player sales, I don't know what will.

Didn't they say 4K UHD too? That format is Region Free anyway.

I think this will cause a spike in 4k player sales.

Or a US label has it, but they’re dragging their feet about annoucing it because they’re waiting for approval on artwork and a Bub action figure?

yeah, I still think we haven't heard the last of this on the US side of things. It may well have taken a joint UK-US venture between labels to come up with enough cash to sate the Rubinstein.

Damn, I’m definitely imorting, even if the BD discs aren’t Region Free. I still have my Anchor Bay disc which has some good extras anyway.

I keep forgetting that UHD is a region-free format so some of the stigma about having to import a region-locked release is removed. I thought there were rumors that Well Go USA was releasing the film in the States but nothing has been said in a LONG time. And Well Go isn't exactly on fire.

I can only assume that Second Sight knows where Rubinstein buried the bodies and/or has incriminating phone recordings?

I think those rumors were just jokes, because Well Go was just such an out-of-the-blue label to land the Phantasm films.

Some people are still crazy like that though, region free or not, as they won't import a 'Murican film from no goddamn Limeys!

I'd get one if they were easier to come by and not really expensive.

I spent $150 on mine. And how much do you spend on movies in an average week? I'm sure there are plenty of people here who can steer you towards a good-quality one for less than what I paid for mine.
