I have a family member who’s an avid video gamer and that C8 is also virtually free of image retention.

Is there a burn in risk? Sure. But it’s extremely small. Just be a bit more aware and careful. And in the meantime, enjoy the best TV technology of all time.
OLED B6 owner here. Was thinking the same until did a Youtube slide test and found out multiple burn-ins.....Have to disagree with the extremely small part there. With OLED light at 100, I believe chances of burn in is higher. Mine was default at 80.

Yeah but nobody is forcing Samsung to quit making UHD players. They could cut costs and make 4K UHD players only if they wanted to. They still would play all the formats (DVD, BD, UHD). They don't have to cease making players for both BD and UHD which is the case here.

In the Forbes article they talked about Samsung's plans for that high end model UHD player in 2019. It won't happen but I think they would do ok with one kind of player on the market. People that shop at say Best Buy, etc would always want a disc player to go with their TV's.

I think their decision to not make UHD players anymore is dumb.

Especially when Sony, Panasonic and LG are doing it so well and consistently (relatively).

Also the more niche we get the more likely a smaller electronics company might see an opportunity to make players built for that market. Pretty sure record players have that kind of setup.
Well, in that case Digital HD is also niche. Going by what you call a small collectors market. Lol.

Also, ITunes movies are going to be sitting there collecting digital dust when streaming subscriptions take over completely for the digital crowd. Similar to Spotify/Apple Music and ITunes MP3 downloads.

With streaming, technology is not advancing, it's going backwards.
It’s going backwards by the year. Compression bit rates are dipping all the time. Didn’t Amazon drop their bit rates so low It introduced horrible artefacts? It’s bern corrected now apparently but the fact it happened in the first place tells you a lot about where we are heading. In my opinion, all these services just want to shave bit rates.

danny24 I doubt that Samsung or any body else makes much on most of the crap sold at Best Buy, so no wonder Samsung are giving them the bird.

I fear that one day there won’t be any official players any more and we will have to DIY them a la Home Theater PCs. =(
Or restore / repair old players. The fact that Laserdiscs players can still be had, gives me hope.

I have said it before but in my opinion, anyone who has switched from disc to digital HD should be ashamed of themselves. Digital HD doesn’t even have a future beyond the next several years. Home Cinema is supposed to replicate the cinema at home. That’s the point. The guys who collect digital are killing that off. I’m not talking about the masses, they still watch their films zoomed or with the vivid mode set at default, I’m talking about enthusiasts in this forum.

"Solved"? Nope. Mollified it enough to be watchable? Yes.

To be fair, OPPO did not leave just Blu-ray player market, they discontinued their whole OPPO Digital line, which included headphones, amplifiers, etc. Cambridge Audio discontinuing CXUHD is a direct consequence of OPPO Digital shutting down, as their player was essentially just a modified UDP-203.

You’d have to think this is a big blow to the small momentum HDR10+ may have been gaining. If the biggest supporter is now not gonna make new compatible players and the other biggest supporter added DV support, doesn’t seam even the creators have much faith in it succeeding.

The others that added support historically supported multiple formats. Oppo won’t be adding to increased sales of compatible players and Panasonic only sells select players here in the US. So if you buy a Samsung TV for HDR10+ you’ll have to spend $500 on a player to play the few discs that now have it.

Don’t look good.

This won't happen in the near future our data caps are far to low. Netflix does 1080p at about 3Mbps Blu-ray does 1080p at about 30Mbps

The only form of digital I would find acceptable should physical media disappear completely, is something like Kaleidescape. Bit for bit downloads with zero compromises made to audio/video.

I think there's something to this. I streamed Solo from Netflix- after the first few minutes I turned it off. There was SO MUCH of a compression issue in the dark scenes- unwatchable.
Sorry IMO- Streaming is no way ready to handle fast motion/dark scenes.

I agree, they’ll be no advancement in technology if all they do is stream films to a certain shite standard that will include banding etc.
