While the original Ghostbusters is the superior film, Ghostbusters II is funnier and scarier.

Yes, it's a little more relaxed, a bit freer, if that makes sense. I also find it more scarier than the original.

Always loved GB2. I think the finale with the statue of liberty is great.

Scarier? Did we see the same two movies? I never found either to be even remotely scary in the first place. Granted, it's been decades since I've seen them so maybe I'm misremembering. That's certainly a possibility. But I remember both as pretty much comedies, with ghosts.

I remember them the same way. Neither were remotely scary and one was way, way more funny than the other.

Try to watch them with barely 10 years old at night back in the 80´s.

I was scared during certain intense scenes as an 8 year old kid?

If Paul Thomas Anderson's films were any worse he would have to change his first name to Wes.

That's clearly the difference then. I was older when I saw them.

Now, Jaws when I was 8? Yeah. Alien? The Shining? Yeah, those got to me, as I was younger and they were meant to be scary and disturbing.

Prior to seeing GB2 I was certain there were paintings in my home that would blink and follow me around the room, lol, so to see something similar on-screen made the experience more unsettling. I mean, I watched Predator around a similar age, and even the sight of skinned human bodies didn't disturb me too much. But possessed paintings? Sleepless nights!

Alien scared the living hell out of me. I was about 9 or 10? Jesus, that was a scary movie! All these decades later I still remember sitting with my dad in a diner, discussing the movie. Same with Apocalypse Now (He told me all about the Conrad novella), same thing with all those other movies. This is what FUN is! But damn, were we scared.

I saw Alien alone in the dark at night. I think I was somewhere between 10 to 13.

I saw Alien, and despite knowing the infamous chest-burster scene beforehand, it still scared the shit outta me!

Also didn't help that John Hurt's acting is brilliant, and that the cast themselves didn't expect the scare, so that's genuine awesomeness.
