Blu-Ray.com’s reviews are good in detailing what extras BluRays have, and the old DVD review site DVDTalk has been invaluable in detailing what extras the old DVDs have. If DVDTalk ever goes away it will be much more difficult to determine if a DVD can be safely thrown out.
http://www.dvdcompare.net is useful for seeing what extras a DVD has

For comic book movies there are certain ones where Ill still have them for DVD while adding the blu ray in the 2 disc DVD case where Ill have the blu ray as the main bonus features behind the scenes disc.

Its what Ive been doing with X Men First Class. I have the DVD and DVD case of X Men First Class with the second disc tray holder inside along with the blui ray since the blu ray has all the bonus features.

Plus theres movies for DVD where the word DVD is plastered right on the frikkin front cover paper inserts of the movie that make the front cover look like a sore thumb.

Wish the movie or DVD companies would stop doing that by slapping the word DVD on the front cover paper inserts of movies.

I hold on to many DVDs for the same reasons most everyone has stated. Several updated Criterion releases on blu didn't carry over all the extras and even have different essays in the their associated booklets.

It's nitpicky, but I'll keep my dvd =)
I don't think the UHDs are teal at all, more green in the matrix and normal colors outside it. Also caps don't really tell you much, since they'd SDR converted and also comparisons throw off colors.

i still have a fair number of DVDs of films i have on blu. i have been selling off a bunch of DVDs but still retain more than a few. with a DVD you can take them anywhere and be able to play them not so much with blu. with that in mind i do keep a lot of my favs so i can bring them to work on boring weekends (like now) or on trips etc. i have ended up with a few duplicates on blu and often give them to a friend if he needs them. of course i do retain some titles for the reasons given by many here in that they contains stuff not on the blu.

I haven't gotten rid of any of my DVDs upgraded to Blus yet, but I eventually plan to purge through the ones that I really don't need anymore. Anything with extras not on the BD edition I'd keep. Stuff like Godzilla movies I collect and would keep anyway even though I wouldn't likely use the disc for casual viewing purposes. I'd keep anything with collectable packaging too.

One of the dumber reasons I convince myself to keep the DVD is for the menus. Since most Blu-rays omit multiple menu screens I still end up checking the DVD copy just to see what the menus look like. I would never buy a seperate DVD copy just to see the menu screens though.

I still have the old Ultimate Edition DVD of Terminator 2 which I bought back in December 2002 and I still like that and prefer it over the blu ray.

Plus Black Hawk Down still has a nice 3 DVD disc set.

I kept some doubles of certain titles back in the days of DVD because I feared them going OOP - that mindset was a holdover from the pre-DVD days when many of my favorite films had been out of circulation and near impossible to find. I reached the zenith of those dark days when I paid $79.99 for a VHS copy of John Russo's Midnight. These days I do have doubles of a few films but they're same-format only (no DVDs and Blu-rays of the same titles). The majority of those are packaging-related, for instance I have 2 versions of Blade Runner 2049: a premium set of steelbooks from a Chinese boutique label and the regular US 4K UHD. There's really no point in hanging onto a DVD unless the title in question hasn't made the jump to HD. Extras that have not ported over may make me hold onto one (maybe) but I think about it hard.

I still have the 2000 R1 DVD release with the aluminium slipcover.

I’m keeping that release for the incredible wealth of extras.

I keep everything. Since the DVD collection really won't be growing much, I'd rather just have it all. VHS too. I like building a library of media.

I used to but not any more. I realized that I never watched them. It's a shame DVDs are so worthless. I used to sell a lot of stuff on half.com before they shut down.

I sell off my DVDs as soon as Blu-ray upgrades of the respective movies become available.

That way, I'll never be on the Hoarders television show.

Very rarely. I did keep my DVD of Dagon for the commentaries, plus the actual image quality is more pleasing on the eyes than the DNR-riddled BD. I also have a few special-packaging collectors edition DVDs like Basic Instinct, American Gangster. Evil Dead 1 and 2 etc which i held onto for their collectable nature.

This is funny, it reminds me of how I bought FS copies of those DVDs with the theatrical Star Wars from the grocery store and gobbed up my WS box set, keeping the box set intact but with the 2 disc cases of the FS discs (giving the spares to my nieces). It looked terrible and by the time I realized my mistake to fix it, they lost the originals. At least I still have the Empire of Dreams disc.

I usually keep previous editions that have missing cuts, extras, etc. from later releases.

Isn't that true in 90% of cases?
