I'd like to add that I don't hate it. But I do understand the people that do.
I don't know about you guys, but I think I prefer the "clean" UHD look compared to the DE. There's no loss in detail of the actual animation and the colors do look a lot better to me. I tried comparing the two discs on my TV and feel that the DE looks more washed out when compared to the UHD.

So not talking about the transfer of the movie for a moment, does the disc label artwork on the 4k look really bad to anyone else? You can see really obvious jpg-like artifacts all over it, especially around the logo. It almost looks like a bootleg with how bad it is. None of the other Disney 4ks I own look like that and it's just on the artwork, all the text on the bottom is clear.

Thinking about picking up the 4k release, but only assuming they fixed the editing issues with the previous blu-ray release. IIRC, there was a super-awkward issue with the Part of Your World scene, but the biggest offender imo was the bad visual thing that happens during the final Ursula fight

Were these things fixed for the 4k release?

Yes. The "bad visual thing" was not an editing mistake of the Diamond Edition. It's an original mistake from the film.

I stand corrected then. Thank you for the correction, and also answering my question. I wish I knew what the technical term for it was called instead of me calling it a "bad visual thing" LOL. That being said, I'm happy you knew what I was talking about

I don't think anyone knows how to call it. Some people suggested it's a torn film, but it's literally in every negative of the film, so it might be an "animation mistake" even though it doesn't seem like that.

I remember seeing that in the theatrical run 30 years ago and thinking to myself, "I'm going to commit this film anomaly, and the exact color of Ariel's fin, to memory while I sit in this budget theater that will eventually become a home depot so I can cause a stir on a message board in the future (though I don't know what a message board is yet) so I can vividly recall what is and is not the true intent of the creative team."

Boy was that a perspicacious viewing of the film for a 6 year old...

It's not difficult to remember what Flounder looked like @ 9 years old. This 4K UHD disc is better on colors and audio than an 80's theater.

Label artwork is one of those things I just don't get, it could look like a CDR with marker pen and I would not care

One of the new bonus features had me cringe big-time. #Treasuresuntold (1080p, 5:40): Coop and Cami Ask the World actors Olivia Sanabia and Ruby Rose Turner reveal some little known facts about the movie. The way these two actors are behaving, while releaving these facts, are just..! URGH! SO over the top! It was just awful! I'm not going to see that one again, that's for sure!

Otherwise, I think this edition is great. My favorite of the new bonus features is the Alan Menken and the Leading Ladies one. That one was great!

Shame Disney didn't add the Image Galleries in HD on the Disc, like they did with the Diamond Edition Blu-ray of both Bambi and The Lion King.
I really wish they would of kept all the old features from the Diamond edition and just added the one or two new featurettes to it. I always have trouble choosing which on to keep when I pick of the 4K version. UGH.

Same here... I love great packaging, classy cover artwork but I am fine with cutting costs of INK and printing. I am fine with the basics on the disc.
Title format (BLU or 4K)

Id rather have the original WDP opening logo and titles intact. I really wish someone who makes those decisions to alter the originals would be replaced with someone who loves the films enough not to make those alterations.

I am all about SteelBooks with poster art, like slipcovers, yet disc art is something I care the least about. As long as the disc isn't damaged or scratched I am good. I always liked the look of the diffraction of light off a CD surface without a label. Labels help protect the surface from scratches, so unless I'm buying new, labels are good.

In that case, why not just go with a digital?

Why do mermaids wear bras? After all, they are fish.

Artwork provides zero AQ/PQ improvement over no artwork

Discs provided noticeable and substantial improvement over digital, ownership, and most of the time cheaper.

I don't know. I got the Target Exclusive 4k version and the artwork on that one, at least, doesn't show any of that. Either the regular version has something weird with it or you got a bootleg. EDIT: nevermind I was thinking about the slipcover art, but on the disc, yeah I do see that around the lettering it looks sort of cut and pasted on and some scrub brushing done on parts but not other parts around the letters. The rest is fine enough though. It doens't bother me at all.

Because the buoyancy of water makes things go in all sorts of directions. Don't want to put out an eye!

I think he just wants to see Ariel nekked. He's just too bashful to come out and say it.

Yea, but 16 in mermaid years is 37. You have to double the age number, then add 5.

It’s kinda like that dog years thing I can never remember.
