I only really care for the Dracula Hammer titles, so it's an easy pass for me.

For folks that really enjoy the Hammer films, what would you rank as the top 5 best? I know that there are a wide range of films out there from a variety of studios but for someone like me that has never really sat down to watch much in the way of Hammer horror, what would you say are the best 5 films, and then which would you say are the best 5 releases to pickup? I know a number of films still haven't had Blu Ray releases (at least in the US) but what would you suggest the uninitiated start with? Is the Universal 8 film set (currently on sale for $19.99) a good place to start? or are their duds in that set that may turn me off of Hammer Horror?

I'll be honest, I've watched A LOT of the trailers and most leave me feeling very unsure as to whether I would enjoy the films. The Scream Factory releases intrigue me, but not at current prices as I am generally a pretty good judge of Blind Buys and these have me thinking that I should pass on them... however since Hammer horror is/was such a big piece of Horror's history I feel like I need to dive into them and explore them further.

I can already tell that the atmosphere and settings should be favorable as I do enjoy the look of the films, but most of them just seem really, really slow. From what I've gathered the Hammer films from the end of their run became much more about T&A and a bit more violence so I'm thinking these films are where I should start and then work back, but I'd be interested in hearing people's thoughts/recommendations as these keep getting cranked out by Scream Factory.

What Dracula films do you like?

It was inevitable.... Piranha steelbook coming 11th June:

Quote:
NEW 4K Scan Of The Original Camera Negative
NEW Audio Commentary With Executive Producer Roger Corman

Audio Commentary With Director Joe Dante And Producer Jon Davison
"The Making Of Piranha" – Interviews With Executive Producer Roger Corman, Director Joe Dante, And Actors Dick Miller, Belinda Balaski And More...
Behind-The-Scenes Footage
Bloopers And Outtakes
Stills Galleries
Behind-The-Scenes Photo Gallery Featuring Photos From Creature Designer/Animator Phil Tippett's Archives
Additional Scenes From The TV Version
Theatrical Trailers
TV Spots
Radio Spots
I guess new versions of Humanoids of the Deep and Galaxy of Terror are inevitable. I'll stick with my existing Blus. With all these deals in place it's a little frustrating to still see quite a few re-releases. Looking forward to the new-to-Blu titles for June.

Interesting. So Piranha has now officially been brought into the Scream Factory lineup which has been a long time coming, but more interesting in my mind is what this means for the other Corman properties moving forward. Could all these OOP titles now be getting ready for the 4k re-master treatment? I'd be hard pressed to pass on an upgraded box set of the Slumber Party Massacre films.

Already have the Roger Corman/Shout Factory branded release. June's looking like an easy month on the wallet...

I bet we'll see Death Race and Humanoids get steelbooks, too.

There's a lot of good hammer movies. The holy trinity of Hammer were Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee and director Terrence Fisher.

I'd started with these: Curse of frankenstein, Horror of Dracula, The Mummy, The Hound of Baskerville, The Brides of Dracula and The curse of the werewolf.

Hammer's 70's stuff are indeed not very good, i'd skip most of them.
For an easy pick, buy the Universal 8 movies collection. Its cheap and you get 4 great classic Hammer movies (curse of the werewolf, The brides of dracula, Night creatures and Kiss of the vampire). Oh and order the mummy and horror of dracula from Warner.

For those wondering what Hammer titles to expect from Scream, these are the remaining titles with Hammer (I've left out the Robin Hood films, as well as Shatter, which seems a stretch for the Scream brand):

The Mummy's Shroud
The Reptile
Rasputin, the Mad Monk
The Devil Rides Out
The Abominable Snowman
X The Unknown
The Lost Continent
Four Sided Triangle
Slave Girls (AKA Prehistoric Women)
The Viking Queen

Then there are also the 9 StudioCanal titles, a number of which are likely to be with Scream:

The Horror of Frankenstein
Scars of Dracula
Blood from the Mummy's Tomb
Dr Jekyll and Sister Hyde
Lust for a Vampire
To the Devil... A Daughter
Demons of the Mind
Straight on Till Morning
Fear in the Night

Also the Hammer titles with Warner (it's strongly rumoured that Curse of Frankenstein and Crescendo are coming from Scream). I haven't included those titles already released by Warner, a number of which could be CE candidates:

Curse of Frankenstein
Crescendo
Hysteria
She
Moon Two Zero

Finally there are still some Sony sci-fi/horror-ish titles yet to be released by Mill Creek or Twilight Time:

The Damned
The Stranglers of Bombay
The Terror of the Tongs

Also worth bearing in mind that Fox have The Nanny, and Universal should have Shadow of the Cat.

Fun movie, but I'll pass. The imperfect transfer on the existing Blu-ray suits it well.

Forget June - 2019 is looking like the lightest year yet, at least for me. Not interested in Hammer, B&W monster flicks or reissues of stuff I'm already satisfied with (like Piranha). At least there are the Studiocanal titles.

What I've noticed so far is that SF has been releasing the Hammer films Anchor Bay released on DVD. So anything from them on DVD is probably a sure bet from SF on BD.

These are the titles with Hammer as well as some StudioCanal titles. I would expect most of them from Scream, possibly a few from Kino.

If you like more violence and action in your horror films then definitely check out the later Hammer films. Stuff like: Scars of Dracula, Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde, Vampire Circus, Twins of Evil, stuff like that. Maybe Dracula A.D. 1972 and Satanic Rites of Dracula as they are modern 70s horror, rather than Gothic horror.

There's a flat $4.00 shipping charge but lots of bargain blu-rays to fill your order.

I have a copy and it's a decent set. The show is wack-a-doodle and I can only watch about one episode a month or it wears out its welcome pretty fast. But in the right mood it's a hoot.
Thanks for the tip- I would definitely buy it, but unfortunately I live in Canada and Hamilton doesn't ship outside the U.S. That is a heckuva deal, though!
Thanks again.
