Why don’t you believe the people that like monster movies are being honest? Or are you saying it’s impossible for anyone to enjoy those movies?

I honestly hate slasher movies, but I know they are extremely popular.

That someone loves, likes, or hates 50's Monster Movies or post-1970's Slasher movies should be a surprise to no one.

Each to his own.
It's a big world out there full of many people with many different interests.

I find most '50s Horror and Sci-Fi to be boring/silly, but THIS ISLAND EARTH is a classic and I will probably pick that up in the future during a sale.

Oh HELL yes, I am interested in these movies. We have been waiting a long time for these to get released. Even having to endure the humility and aggravation of these AMERICAN classics (yes, I called them classics) being released in every other country except that in which they were MADE. I think Shout/scream knows they will be good sellers and that's why they changed their pricing policy just before they started releasing these. They know there are thousands like me who will pretty much pay what they want (kind of like the rumored Criterion Godzilla set). I hope these do sell well for them because there is a lot more 50's sci-fi/horror I am waiting for. Bring them on Scream and take my money.....

Someone being honest ? Are you inferring that those of us who answered yes are for some odd reason lying. Why would we do that ? I love these flicks, have since I was a kid. I have a collection of about 300 toys and figures from those classic horror and classic sci-fi movies. At 63 yrs old, I am still hooked on this stuff, lol.

I'm just teasing, mostly. I get that everyone has his or her own personal taste. But I'm in a movie group on FB where I see a lot of people buying the worst of the worst of these Vinegar Syndrome releases, films with no redeeming value whatsoever, and they buy them solely so they can post a picture of them on FB, only to re-sell them, unopened, two to three weeks later, saying that they need the money for rent/medical bills/cigarettes/etc. I think, in a lot of ways, it's become chic for people to act like they like something known for being garbage, just to A) troll others, or B) show that they are ironic and edgy in a way that others aren't, and to feel as though they're part of a certain club of intellectual cinephiles, when they are not. As a child of 80s and 90s cinema, those are the movies I'm partial to, but I also think that that specific era was the true golden age for horror movies. They have never been better than they were then, and likely never will. And we all know it. That being said, I also get that others like what they grew up with, and have nostalgia towards the movies that influenced/scared/inspired them when they were kids. I don't see much redeeming value in super cheap-o monster movies from the 50s, and they aren't the movies I want to buy on Blu-ray. But I didn't grow up with those, and if you're genuinely excited to buy these for $30 from Scream Factory, I'm genuinely happy for you.

As you say though, Shout Select offers some other possibilities. I'm hoping for Cloak and Dagger, Renegades and American Me in particular.

Oh man, don't even get me started on The Incredible Shrinking Man and The Thing That Couldn't Die. I would kill for a Scream release of those films with commentaries and extras and I already own the U.K. blu of ISM.....

I'm only interested in 50's scifi/monster flicks if they are part of a budget priced boxset. I would probably spend $25 on a 5 pack, not a single release. To pay more I'd need a Kim Newman interview. I've found a few stone cold gems (Forbidden Planet, The Space Children, Invasion of the Body Snatchers) that I adore but when a blind buy 50's scifi/monster flicks the chances I find a winner are lower (maybe 1 in 10) than just about every genre that interests me.

1) Man am I glad I'm not a Facebook. I'd hate for my opinion on anything to be influenced by the people posting on that site.

2) IMO your "no redeeming value" is not a fair statement. Just because those films don't meet your standards or tickle your fancy doesn't mean they don't have value. I buy a lot of those films and hide them in a closet (an awesome media closet with cool hand-built shelving) for my eyes only. I don't think of them as a badge of honor and am embarrassed when my wife mentions my collection to my friends. I own thousands of genre films because I find them far more entertaining than whats on cable TV, Netflix, theaters and Youtube. It can't be nostalgia as I been experiencing most these genres for the first time in recent years.

80's films are what tickle my nostalgia but I disagree that the best horror films are from the 80s/90s. IMO the 70s are the golden age for horror and just about any genre of film.

I've been very excited about many of the 50's movie announcements, but few have been pre-order worthy for me. Most of the Universal monster movies I've just bought on DVD a few years ago and I'm in no hurry to invest into upgrading them to Blu-ray yet.

So far June has been great for me, I'm definitely going to pre-order This Island Earth, Frankenstein Created Woman, and the Piranha remaster.
