Just bought the Disc+Digital copy on VUDU. That site is blocked at my job, but I was able to sample the digital copy on FandangoNOW and it has the IMAX ratio. So it looks like this is the same as Mission: Impossible - Fallout and has the expanded aspect ratio on every version.

First time doing the disk and digital... so when we get the movie, it will still have the digital copy in the case? so we could sell the digital in the case and recoup some money? Seems like a steal to this and get to watch the movie early.

Yeah, it's no different than buying any other new UHD. You get the same final product as if you had just pre-ordered the movie on its own. The early digital access is just a bonus. We might need a Disc+Digital sticky.

the only bad thing is that there's no price match if the price drops from now until release day...

True. IMAX AR, but whatever. He's answering questions for the layman, I get that, so why start clarifying these things now? lol

so Aquaman was filmed with Alexa 65's...so not true dedicated IMAX cameras...but isn't everyone including Nolan using these cameras for IMAX nowadays?...wasn't Dunkirk also filmed with Alexa 65?...is there a difference in picture quality between Alexa IMAX and 'real' IMAX cameras?

Nolan used 70mm for Dunkirk. IMDb has this filmed on Alexa Mini and SXT.

Yeah, that happened to me with M:I Fallout, but I'm not sure if there are other examples. I figure it's just the risk you take when you want to watch it early. At least you can do something with the extra code and still have a digital copy that you may theoretically watch some day.

Yup. Aquaman, like most "IMAX" embiggened movies, wasn't shot on "IMAX" cameras, certainly not 15-perf 65mm and not even the Alexa 65-with-a-sticker-on variant.

All they're doing is shooting a taller frame on a RED or Alexa or DXL or whatever and not letterboxing it. Seriously, that's it.

so shooting with an Alexa 65 branded IMAX camera won't give any improvements in resolution or picture quality versus a standard non-IMAX branded Alexa camera?...it just gives you the larger aspect ratio but no other improvements?...so Alexa is fake IMAX just like the tons of fake IMAX theaters that have popped off all over the country in recent years

An Alexa 65 will absolutely give you an increase in quality vs an SXT or Mini (6.5K vs 3.4K) and a different 'look' in general because it needs bigger lenses that have a shallower depth of field. What I'm saying is that many "IMAX" films aren't even using the 65, stickered or not, they're just using the regular Alexa or RED or whatever.

that's sad...and then they label it as IMAX and most people are none the wiser...they should re-label true 70mm IMAX as Nolan IMAX
