As Geoff has written at length about before Fox just releases what MGM tell them to, so it's still MGM calling the shots. They'd have to choose to get into UHD and do the planning and whatever else, then have Fox release it. Also given Fox's sale to Disney who knows how that will all be handled in the very near future. All the MGM stuff released through Fox could go OOP when the Disney sale is complete, for all we know (not trying to freak anyone out).

MGM is making direct deals with labels without Fox though, which is how most of their older stuff is coming out. I doubt they'd license the Bond movies anytime soon but they just licensed Robocop so who the heck knows where their mind is at.

What an incredible price on this set right now. And I thought when I got it for $99 that was the best deal I could've gotten. Oh well.

I bought them for $99 as well but on iTunes so got all of them upgraded to 4k without having to pay another cent.

Set arrived yesterday... of course the box was beaten to hell. Good old Amazon. Ordered a replacement.

Did watch Dr. No though. My first non-Craig Bond movie. Loved it! Connery is a great Bond... "That's a Smith and Wesson, and you've had your six."

I feel like a UHD set around November does seem plausible, despite MGM's non-history with the format. It just seems like an obvious seller for an obvious franchise when they're bound to put out a new set prior to the new film anyway. The format will be mildly more mainstream within a year, and mostly all they're doing is catching the physical format up to their 4K digital copies.

But what really tips me into convinced is that it's just going to be weird if ~6 months later, Fukunaga's Bond is the only one with a 4K disc.

That's still one of the coldest, most ruthless kills in the Bond films.

I can still recall seeing DR. NO for the first time and recognizing actor Anthony Dawson as the evil nobleman from Hammer's CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF...his Prof. Dent's ignoble death felt doubly deserved.

Hey fellow Bond fans, I just finished reading this book that I got for Christmas:

It was a re-print of a book that was originally published in 1973 as Roger Moore as James Bond: Roger Moore's Own Account of Filming Live and Let Die.

Basically, for the duration of his time filming his first 007 movie, Moore kept a daily diary going over details of the shoot, as well as what was going on in his personal life. I found it to be absolutely absorbing. Having seen Live and Let Die (like most of the classic Bonds) multiple times, it was interesting to see what was going on in Moore's mind and life at the time he was filming, learning what some of the challenges were, and even just finding out what order the scenes were actually filmed in. It was also kind of poignant to read little details about things like visits from his kids, who were just young at the time, from the perspective of 45 years later after Moore has passed away and left an amazing legacy as Bond. After I was done, I was actually a tad disappointed that Moore didn't keep a diary on all of his other Bond films!

I always liked Gold finger but there is some bad bloopers left for everyone to see. If anyone ever did notice.

Wait till he get to SPY WHO, the most schizophrenic of the Bond films. You've got 'Bond' (I think of Moore as being Bond's gay uncle, to steal a phrase again from my wife) pumping four rounds into the villain, the first two apparently into his balls. Pretty serious overkill for a villain who hasn't killed his newest friend or done much besides try to blow up the world.

A friend loaned me that pb as a teen; it was the first time I'd heard of Jim Garrison and learned of his investigation into JFK. The book has some really nice and compelling detours and details; not a traditional making-of book at all, but really not bad.

Still, it's no MAKING OF EXORCIST II THE HERETIC. Now that's a warts-and-all making of book. They really don't make them like that anymore.

Last night I watched the Goldeneye remaster in 4k on the AppleTV.

This new master is LOVELY. Really, really beautiful. I can only hope it comes to disc though, because the audio quality on the Apple stream was terrible. Goldeneye has that unique-ish electronic soundtrack with thick bass and lots of dynamic moments and it was just super flat on the stream. When I put the BD in to compare afterward the sound quality was GREATLY enhanced. It was no contest.

Video did look solid though I must say. More like a Blu-ray and not a 4k presentation, but it was a solid looking Blu-ray if you get my drift. I'm sure an actual 4k disc would blow it away but comparing it to the old processed looking master we have on disc now it was a nice improvement. No obvious compression issues really like the audio, though the grain obviously got a little noisy here and there.

Still that sound quality... woof. Just horrible.

I have the individual titles on blu-ray, but am wondering if the discs in the Ultimate Collection have bookmark capability. Does anyone know if the discs in the set are corrected? Right now on the discs I have I cannot stop the film without them having to go back to the beginning when I start up again.

The discs are still the same right down to the region locking of the original '08-'09 Blus.

I usually just go to the main menu if I need to use the restroom or whatever. Usually when you resume from the menu the disc picks up where you left off, and menus keep the player from shutting off. Not 100% sure that works with the Bonds but it pretty much always does.

I will give that a try though sometimes I need to shut off the player if I go to sleep.
