Default Sony pledges to ‘reinvigorate’ PSP in ‘09

http://www.mcvuk.com/news/33225/Sony...rate-PSP-in-09

Quote:

‘SIGNIFICANT’ NEW titles are heading to the PSP this year that will revitalise the format and attract new consumers, Sony has told MCV.

Now over four years-old, the PSP has steadily established itself throughout the current generation, selling over 40 million units globally – 3.2m of them in the UK.

But software sales have been less consistent. In GfK-ChartTrack’s monthly report for January, the format accounted for just 3.6 per cent of the UK software market in unit terms – a stark contrast to Japan, where 2008’s biggest title was PSP game Monster Hunter.

Speaking to MCV, UK product manager Claire Backhouse said that comparable titles are on the way over here – a number of them unannounced – that can help turn around the format’s current standing.

“This year we are also launching a host of significant PlayStation IPs on the PSP platform, the first being Resistance Retribution, which will help drive sales,” Backhouse said.

“It’s these core IPs that we believe will help broaden the appeal of PSP in the UK, and when coupled with the existing functionality such as Go!View and Go!Cam, will make PSP a very attractive proposition.

“Granted, perhaps there hasn’t been the volume of high profile PSP titles we would have liked to have seen on the platform. But, that said, we continue to focus heavily on software development.

“The fruits of this you’ll see later this year, with the release of a number of currently unannounced, yet significant franchises that will re-invigorate the current user base, as well as attracting a whole new audience.”

As always, I will believe it when I see it. I don't trust SCE when it comes to the PSP, their support has been very lacklustre so far.

I think PSP2 needs to come in the next year or so and they can really get behind it if they make it hack-proof like the PS3.

Besides more games (obviously), I want to see Sony improve the connection between the PSP and the PS3. For one, dowloading pictures, audio, and video from the PS3 to the PSP should be as easy as plugging the PSP into the PS3, choose the file, and tell it to download to the PSP. Why can it not be that simple?? Why do I have go through my PC to put video files on my PSP?

Also, start making more PSP/PS1 titles avaliable through the PSN.

Also, just re-make the good ps1 games onto umd's. I want me some FFVIII without having to use my ps3.

Can't the PS3 do this now? The PSP shows up as a USB storage device (when in USB mode) and you can select it as a copy destination IIRC. I would actually like to see a wireless transfer of such things in the future though because I am loathe to pull out even the power cord for the PSP, much less any other cords like a USB cable...

I would much rather see more PS1 games on the PSN store so I can fill up my MSPD sticks. My biggest complaint about the current incarnation of the PSP is the fact that I have to rely on an optical device to spin up and down and slow down my gaming experience. Nothing would make me happier (concerning my PSP) if a dozen or so PS1 games would show up in the PSN store every month.

It's not that simple. It lets you download it but then your psp cannot find the file. Either than or it says it cannot play it. Yet when I plug my PSP into my PC, the files are there in the correct folder and I can view them on my PC but not on my PSP.

What Sony needs to do to make the PSP a better product is up the internal storage to 32+ GBs. I actually got a PSP for Christmas and regretfully returned it because I would rather have an IPod Touch. I'm 24 and don't have any time for portable games, I hardly have time to play my PS3 but I would have used it for my Digital Copies and it would be sweet to have the option to play games. With the extended Memory you can only go up to 16GB which I could max out with just music and pictures. I say regretfully because my wife to be has not got a replacement gift (Which is understandable because I'm the dousher that didnt like her gift) To keep a short story long I would have kept the PSP IF there was more benefits such as more internal storage.

***I don't know how the internet; Browser capabilities are but this is also a key feature that will only increase with the growth of technology***

Another AMAZING feature would be Video Streaming from your PS3 with your Blu ray player. Leave a Blu ray in the PS3 and if you are somewhere with Internet Connection you can watch the movie remotely. (I guess you can watch your video files currently? but it would be sweet for a Blu.

Check out Hancock, their digital copy does similar, it's not through the PS3 though, still through the PS3.

Not quite what was said, but pretty close, time will tell.

I think they just need some games that people say man I must have that! I haven't felt that way about any psp game.

yeah, its the way i am though. i love having things legit lol. i'll buy a 3000 when more interesting colors are announced. that screen does look pretty awesome i must admit. however the interlacing issues kinda keep me holding onto my 2000 a little more.
