Tales From the Black Freighter...Trailer

I wasn't sure where to post this, but since it is going straight to Blu-ray (March 10), I guess here is the place to do it. It's the trailer for the new Tales of the Black Freighter, voiced by Gerard Butler.

It's the tie in to the new Watchmen movie and is based off the "comic within the comic" storyline in the Watchmen series.

Looks decent...I'm still holding off until I see if it will be apart of the BD release of Watchmen, hopefully interwoven within the movie. If nothing else at least it will be cheaper to buy once Watchmen comes out on BD!

Ya I'll be holding off on this. I read somewhere that an Extended Cut of Watchmen would be released on BD w/ TotBF interwoven into it. So that's what I'll be waiting for.

So is this story from comic book that is being read within the Watchmen comic?

It's a story that a freeloader reads at a news stand in New York starting in Issue 3 on up to Issue 11 or so. Its actually a bit annoying because it seemingly interrupts the plot -- the best that can be said for its inclusion is that it tips you off as to what the inevitable fate may be for one of the characters in the story who has taken on a personal vendetta. Otherwise, you may find yourself flipping ahead out of impatience.

Actually, it was other screenwriters trying to faithfully keep in ALL of Alan Moore's artsy allegories, side-commentaries and faux-essays that kept the script in limbo for twenty years--
The new script dropped the baggage and kept whatever theme was already in the Comedian plot, it seems simple enough that someone should've thought of it before...If you want to read two-page NYT essays just to get someone saying "God is an American" into the script, that's what books are for.

Nowadays, Warner's current "Bruce & Lloyd: Out of Control" preoccupation with releasing tie-in direct-videos the same week their big-big-ticket movie hits theaters seems to have finally found a USEFUL outlet for extraneous side material...
That was a lucky break for them, though--Let's hope Warner doesn't get overconfident and abuse the idea too much on other movies, and gets over this idea pretty soon.
