Hi everyone,

An Australian retailer has just confirmed with Disney that Toy Story 1, 2, 3 will be hitting Australian shores on June 5, 2019.

“Possibly Pixar’s most beloved franchise, and the one that really started it all for them – as well as computer animated movies generally – is set to hit 4K Ultra HD soon.

We have confirmed with Disney that each of the first trio of Toy Story movies are set for an Australian 4K release on June 5 – golly bob howdy!

That’s about it for details currently, and with the recent release of The Little Mermaid as a single disc, extras-free affair, we don’t even know whether we’ll get a standard Blu-ray with bonus features or not.

But we are set to get Toy Story, Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3 on 4K disc, hopefully with new Dolby Atmos sound mixes, as per other Disney back catalogue animated releases.

Toy Story 4 is, of course on the horizon, set to arrive in Australian cinemas on June 20. These 4K releases will be a great way to refresh our memories of the series before then.

Hmmmm. I'd be amazed if Disney release these in the UK on 4K, the Aussies are doing a bit better on that front.

Individual cases or all three movies in one case?

Not that it matters, as I'd want to wait and get all four in one set when that comes out...

Trailer for the 4th movie looks underwhelming and AR looks to be 2.39:1. TS3 was 1.85:1. Hoping the actual movie is as good as the first 3.

What would be the odds of the first (and potential second) having been re-rendered at a higher resolution instead of being a 2k upscale?

Unlikely since Pixar have said they don’t currently see the benefit of rendering in 4K.

Zero chance. Not so much because "Disney's lazy" but that there's very little point in actually doing so.

It's not really matter of Disney being lazy as it would cost an absolute fortune to rerender everything in 4K for very little overall return, both in financial and picture quality terms.

All 3 are up on Best Buy. Can't order them (and they have a release date of 6/2) but they're there.
