Can anybody give me the specifics on what was cut from the film in the UK version? I live in the US, so I guess I get the uncut version.... but when I saw this in theaters I didn't see anything overly violent or offensive... Just wondering why they would cut parts from this film?

I don't think anyone actually knows for sure! But (not having seen it yet, cut or uncut) I've heard that a robot character gets killed in a rather intense way and that seems like as good a candidate as anything. Once the actual discs are released then a proper assessment will be carried out by moviecensorship or whoever.

The major difference there is that Alita is a 12A/PG-13 rated film aimed at an older audience (the film was mostly marketed to teenagers and young adults). Bumblebee is a PG rated film aimed at children. The reason Paramount made the cuts to Bumblebee in the UK was to get a PG rating as they wanted the film to be more marketable and appealing to families (presumably so it could act as counter-programming to Aquaman). IIRC, for the BBFC the actual amount of violence doesn't matter, the intensity of the violence does however. This is why the later Harry Potter films are rated 12A, while the earlier ones are PG. The later films aren't particuarly more violent and are pretty tame compared to most 12A films, but the films themselves are a lot more intense and the violence is a lot more intense as a result. Venom and Suicide Squad got 15 ratings for similar reasons, the violence in them was pretty tame, but was a lot more intense than the typical superhero film. In regards to Bumblebee, I'm in agreement that it's a specific death that was cut down. The scene itself is very intense and I can see it pushing the film to a 12A if it was longer than it was. |

Interesting thing though is that the Blu-ray bonus material has been classified "12" certificate on the BBFC website. So if that's the case the PG rating on the Blu ray and 4K U.K covers may be premature unless Paramount drops any special features that got the 12 rating and keeps the whole package PG. (It also explains Paramount Australia's assertion that the bonus material gave the film a higher rating than the PG that the film itself was given).

Gave in and got the disc+digital and watched the UHD stream tonight. This should be a great disc. So many nice highlights. Colors and contrast are super. A few bad CGI moments here and there but this stands up well to the Bay movies from an audio/visual perspective, as far as I can tell from the stream.
And what a relief to watch a sub 2-hour Transformers movie that doesn’t feel like it was directed by a hormone. Makes me wonder what might have been. |

I wonder with the 1.78:1 ratio if we're gaining picture top and bottom, or losing picture on the sides?

Watched this in itunes today. I liked it. For the first time in the Transformers movie franchise I felt like I want more movies to come especially with some of the characters that only really made cameos and only if they follow the formula that made Bumblebee a hit with some fans of the Generation 1 Transformers cartoon. I loved the sountrack in this too. One song in particular was awesome to hear.

Are the special features/extra content on the UHD version 4k as well?

I think I know which song. Might it be one Transformers fans are already familiar with? ![]() |
