Except for the original 1997 theatrical version of Death, which is new to the BD box. All home video releases before that had the revised "Death[True]²" version originating with the 1998 "Revival of Evangelion" theatrical re-release in which Death[True]² + EoE were presented together as a single program.

Of course, due to space limitations on all previous formats (VHS, LD, and DVD) the BD box is *also* the first set that allows for the entire "Revival of Evangelion" presentation to be played as a whole on a single disc. All previous releases had either Death[True]² + Rebirth (or just Death[True]²) by itself on one tape/disc with EoE on the other.

Also, the 2003 DVD box didn't have the extended (~4min) versions of the OP/ED from the "01 Test Type" Renewal teaser disc, nor the 4 music videos from the "Music DVD".

It still seems that could have done the Archives and the BD twin releases. Why couldn't they call the BD Archives as well? The BD version is more of an Archive than the DVD version.

I have forgotten is the remix music DVD an extra on anything or is that just the Music DVD?

Not my problem. Huge improvements are easy enough to come by. I’m neither one that doesn’t care nor one that keeps obsessing and questing for that unattainable perfection. If quality didn’t matter, we’d still be watching DVDs or sticking with low bitrate 720p streaming.

I agree with what your saying, just pointing out that it can lead to extremes. Like not buying a release because its sd bluray or dvd only, even though you love the anime or you want to see it.

Even if the release was dvd only? I know most companies ditched dvds, but discotek still puts some quality stuff on dvd.

DVD is honestly not a horrible format if you know what you're doing. There are anime DVDs that when compared to the Blu-ray, actually manage to compare well even if the Blu-ray is still better (Ex: Last Exile). I'm fine with DVDs on older stuff if the series is DVD-only, or if the Blu-ray manages to be worse than the DVD because of a bad/lazy remaster or upscale (why does this nonsense still happen?).

Gankutsuou is another example of a poor upscale where the old SPEEDVD Geneon DVDs have more detail.

Yep, just how the **** did that happen? Why does a DVD from 2005 have more detail in the hair than a Blu-ray from 2011?

Haibane Renmei always comes to mind. The old dvd is way better than the bluray and the funi dvd that used the bluray.

Not that this matters in regards to Eva, since having seen them the Japanese Blus look amazing, much better then even the platnium DVDs (which, did look good as far as DVDs are concerned).

I would agree with the other examples though.

One thing to note about the Blu-Rays is that they got the "Star Wars Special Edition" treatment.

So they can't bother to have the other releases like the 2007 edition DVD set mentioned? The 2007 one is more common than the 2nd impact box set.

Roger that. Obviously I'd prefer bluray, but I usually live by the dvd is better than nothing stance.

Currently no, though it could be nice to have one, but in some cases, it can be a bit subjective, or pick your poison.

Just wanna say, I have the JP BD Box, and just ripped it to my Plex server a few months ago. That 5.1 audio track is freaking beautiful

I only sampled it, though. I need to watch the rebuilds before ever rewatching OG EVA. So whenever a NA BD comes out, I'll be ready to grab an remux any subs and dub into my files
