I got the image from this thread and have been following it for a while. I love physical media, but to say that it's not declining is straight up false.

Let's just see then. I ask then why would they if Season 1 doesn't sell?

Really? Tell that to Samsung and Oppo. Or 3D. Or the numerous other companies that have given up on catalog releases and sublicense them to Kino or Shout or other small labels - labels that either do NOT do 4K catalog titles or an extremely limited amount.

Artwork costs practically nothing compared to doing HDR transfers and new masters and completely new pressings. They can just take existing discs returned from retailers that didn't sell and put them in the new packaging.

And did Boardwalk Empire get a 4K release?

Yeah sadly it's accelerating. I'm doing my best to help keep the sales up.
Fun fact: I was the only one to buy Higher Power UHD release

For that week, the week it's been compared to in 2018 had Thor Ragnarock release.

If you look at the February comparisons the blu-ray sales are up on last year.

Frightening isn't it? How do dvds still exist?

It is, yet there are still films you can't get on Blu. A few Cronenberg's, Friedkin's Bug, etc. Baffling.

A lot of people seem to shrug or laugh off the nuttiness of it, but it (along with some other societal trends of late) really convinces me that roughly every other person on the planet is mentally unstable--maybe not violent or dangerous, mind you, but bent like a paper clip nonetheless--and I'm frightened. I used to have so much exuberant faith in humanity. Now, I only want to survive it.

Try owning a retail store. It will totally exuberant any ounce of faith in you may still have in humanity.

I don't think you are going to convince people who say this will get a 4k boxset and they won't convince you. So yes, lets just wait and see then.

The new masters reason gets used all the time for why TV shows don't make it to Blu-ray and yet HBO remastered and released The Sopranos and The Wire. HBO also had the good sense to release those 2 shows as complete series boxsets. While Game of Thrones isn't a catalogue title it is near enough to the end for people to say i'll wait for a complete series boxset (I believe it's been said a few times in this thread)

No, but it wasn't as popular as GOT. I was in rush when writing that post, I should have included that in the past HBO have released the complete series boxset months after the final season has been released on disc and there will probably be a lot of Chicken Little posts proclaiming the death of physical media if the boxset isn't released at the same time as season 8 blu-ray.

Agreed, my faith in humanity died around 2016.

Let's face it. A complete series Blu-ray set of Game of Thrones isn't going to excite anybody since they have already released 1-7 in a box set, but a complete series 4K release would turn some heads.

What little faith I had left died over the past few days.

The reality is that the market is always shifting and that there is still a niche, very substantial demand for high-quality physical media products.

Yes, and that demand continues to dwindle.

Speak for yourself. 4K is selling great here and the few stores still selling movies have more to offer than ever before. It has been growing for two years, and every month there is more shelf space allocated to them.

The numbers speak for me. You can continue to bury your head in the sand with that anecdote though.

It's sort of like how certain styles of fashion fall out of favor only to come back again hotter than ever years later. Physical media is like that and will be that way for a very, very long time.
