So I guess this won’t be the Oscar front runner, with the reviews, the box office, and the April date. I still don’t think Toy Story 4 or Frozen 2 will get it. If Call of the Wild is a hit, maybe that’s our champion. Go get it, Sander!

Saw this last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. The story had its familiar beats but it was still solid and got the job done but the gorgeous animation, awesome set pieces, great voice work all around and colorful characters elevated it.
Not perfect but still was a really good animated film filled with plenty of humor, action and heart. Among my faves in Laika's canon as they create the polar opposite of the cut rate animated films flooding the screens nowadays.

I wasn’t even that excited to see this and still came away disappointed. Everything just seemed so average with this one. I’m glad I got out there to support the studio, but I don’t think I’ll be revisiting this one again. I am inspired to watch Kubo again real soon though.

I think they should work with Netflix on a project sometime; Hell, maybe even that Guillermo Del Toro Pinocchio movie that he's making. There is an audience for stop motion animation but it appears the mainstream doesn't have the appetite.

It's been a steady downward trend at the box office for them after the mild success of Coraline a decade ago (which still didn't crawl over the $100 million mark). If Travis Knight's dad weren't one of the richest men in the world, the studio would have folded years ago.

As for Netflix, that's mean no Blu-Ray release, so...

If this was a great movie I would totally be upset but I after watching it I can totally understand the recession it’s getting.

I personally loved it. Mr Link/"Susan" was such a lovable character, and his desire to get a sense of belonging is easily relatable. The humor was good, not great, more geared more towards a younger audience.

The visuals were absolutely one of the best things about this. Laika put on a true tech demo, showcasing an amazing diversity of locales with amazing detail and color. I saw it in Dolby Cinema, and the entire movie was just breathtaking.

It's unfortunate that the movie didn't click for some here. While it's not an emotional powerhouse or quirky like most of Laika's other films, I thought it was a throughly enjoyable adventure film with great characters, and an excellent voice cast.

I'm a simple guy: I see Laika, I'm there opening weekend

Don't think I've ever had anything less than a thoroughly enjoyable time watching any of their offerings.
4 stars from me.
