Thanks for that, I had been wondering if the Aus disc wasn't the exact same encode given how totally like the Shout caps it looked like with the compression anomalies. Were it not for the slight colour shift I'd be damned sure it still was! In fact, I still sort of am, has that shift been introduced via the capture method? I don't understand how the iffy compression could be so exact otherwise.

With all of the excitement for Dawn and the awesome release of Night, I hope Scream decides to do a new 4K scan of Day.

Yes, it looks like the exact same encode otherwise (which Umbrella have form for, their Dawn is literally the same video encode as the Arrow bit-for-bit) so I think a colour space issue somewhere in the chain is the most likely explanation for the slight saturation differences.

Doubtful, or they would've/could've done it in 2013 when they did the 2K scan of it. If they just thought about future proofing instead of doing cheap 2K IP scans and wasting the PQ money on slipcovers and junk extras, then they'd already have it.

Hopefully they do one of those steelbooks with a new scan, same with Cat People.

Do I need to watch Dawn before I watch this? I have the Criterion of Night, and the Umbrella release of Day, but I'm waiting on the Second Sight release of Dawn to pick that one up.

No. There's a minor reference to Dawn that's a more a joke/nod with "and all of the shopping malls are closed!"

Not at all IMHO. There's nothing particularly carried over from Dawn to Day and they are pretty different films tone and style wise.

The cost differences of doing a 4k scan in 2013 and 2019 are a world apart, I'm sure that those differences amounted to why we got what we got. It also makes little sense to scan an interpositive or other later generation element in 4k.... particularly back in 2013 when the costs associated with such a scan would have been much higher. I can't remember exactly, but do not believe that Shout Factory had access to the original film negatives for their earlier release.

All things considered I actually expect this one to get a steelbook remaster announcement at some point. I wouldn't be surprised in the least if it was announced for the fall.
