No one knows where the masters are. And it's never been edited. We don't even know if the whole show was shot.

Better off trying to find the masters for Japan. That was actually recorded with one of the first HD video cameras.

How could they lose the master used for the Pioneer LaserDisc?

That wasn't filmed. It was shot on PAL videotape

From what I recall the LD (which was NTSC) was a "hard copy" of what had aired live on HBO the previous summer. I actually had it on VHS (from HBO) and later rented the LD.

Nice was recorded with PAL cameras in France. The laserdisc is edited differently to the HBO broadcast with a different sound mix as well. PAL, as you know, has a resolution of 720x576 and there are supposedly PAL laserdiscs with the slightly higher resolution.

Yes, but you have that pesky 25fps frame rate.

Never compared the editing of the HBO to the LD so will take your word at that. Not surprised the sound mix is different since MTS Stereo (mono compatible) vs. LD digital stereo are night and day.

Come to think of it, I may (MAY) have a dub of the LD on a SVHS in storage. I didn't start buying LDs until later.
From what I also remember, it went OOP pretty quick.

We're also talking memories from 1990. F--- I'm old.

But, in this case, it wasn't sped up because it was videotape and native. So, technically, creating an NTSC master would introduce a litany of issues.

It didn't go OOP very quickly.

And it has nothing to do with MTS vs. Digital. It's a completely different sound mix. All of her tours that were broadcast (from WTG - DW) have different mixes. They were all rebuilt from the ground up

Pioneer holds the USA rights to the Blonde Ambition Tour footage. Not Madonna. I seem to recall a push for them to release it in the early days of DVD and they flat out said they weren't interested since nearly a decade had passed at that point. That's the hold up.

Allegedly. Madonna doesn't like revisiting the past, so this excuse just seems easier than denying fans what they really want.

I'm surprised the rights holders don't just do it on their own.
