Yes, but you have that pesky 25fps frame rate.

Never compared the editing of the HBO to the LD so will take your word at that. Not surprised the sound mix is different since MTS Stereo (mono compatible) vs. LD digital stereo are night and day.

Come to think of it, I may (MAY) have a dub of the LD on a SVHS in storage. I didn't start buying LDs until later.
From what I also remember, it went OOP pretty quick.

We're also talking memories from 1990. F--- I'm old.

But, in this case, it wasn't sped up because it was videotape and native. So, technically, creating an NTSC master would introduce a litany of issues.

It didn't go OOP very quickly.

And it has nothing to do with MTS vs. Digital. It's a completely different sound mix. All of her tours that were broadcast (from WTG - DW) have different mixes. They were all rebuilt from the ground up

Pioneer holds the USA rights to the Blonde Ambition Tour footage. Not Madonna. I seem to recall a push for them to release it in the early days of DVD and they flat out said they weren't interested since nearly a decade had passed at that point. That's the hold up.

Well, that theoretically may be the hold up for that one release but I've never heard that they hold the rights in perpetuity. If you have any proof, I'd love tu read it.. But since it's not in HD, I'm not really that concerned.

However, that doesn't explain Japan, Spain or the concert footage from ToD.... Not to mention the concert footage that David Fincher filmed.

The camera work in Truth or Dare is really different. (I just watched it.) I'm thinking directors David Mallet (the concert film) and Alek Keshishian (the documentary) used different equipment for most of it. Only some shots match, with Keshishian's being closer and more in the middle of it.

What is currently the best version of Blond Ambition to buy or download if I don't have a laser disc player? I got this bootleg a few months ago:

I saw all three Blond Ambition shows at the Oakland Coliseum and they were all amazing. I never saw Madonna after that due to the ever rising prices of the shows. I watched all of the shows on DVD or Bluray and still think Blond Ambition was the best.

After that it started to become too much Cirque Du Soleil. The Drowning World I think on DVD only was also a great tour.

Yeah, seen it. Will watch it again soon. My collection:

Madonna, 1988 - Ciao, Italia! (Who's That Girl World Tour) DVD (Seen it three times.)
Madonna, 1990 - Blond Ambition Tour DVD bootleg of laser disc (Seen it three times.)
Madonna, 1990 - The Immaculate Collection DVD
Madonna, 1991 - Truth or Dare DVD (Only watched this yesterday. Will replace with the Blu-ray at some point.)
Madonna, 1994 - The Girlie Show DVD
Madonna, 2001 - The Drowned World Tour DVD
Madonna, 2006 - The Confessions Tour (Censored high def NBC broadcast spliced with uncensored DVD. I've only seen the pure DVD version so far.)
Madonna, 2009 - Celebration DVD (Music videos, seen it twice.)
Madonna, 2010 - Sticky & Sweet Blu-ray

I started watching her videography just in January, after listening to her music for years.

To be honest no version has pleased me. What you quoted is a rip of the final date of the show, from the Pioneer LaserDisc version that won her her first grammy.
Personally I would love for her London dates to be available because she sounds super-raw but very very addictive.
Recently seen some more dates pop up on utube but it's been so busy that I haven't reconciled anything yet.
Officially you have one Nice and one Japan versions released.

That banned user you quoted is me. I wanted a new username.

I love the show in Nice. Some fans say she was most in form in Japan, at the beginning of the tour, but her Japanese audience was boring. Too reserved and polite. She needs the audience to be into her or it just feels uncomfortable. The only other BAT show I've got is the one in Barcelona, which I've also heard is the best, but the quality of that rip is so poor.

I know she was probably exhausted in that last leg of the tour (Europe) and had that problem with her voice before, but Nice being the last show adds to it, in my opinion. Especially for the end of Keep It Together. She also doesn't do that fake goodnight followed by an encore thing that everybody including she does, instead just thanking her audience after telling her that the next song is the last of the tour.

I've now got a better encode of the Nice NTSC show. Until I can find a good encode of the Barcelona or Nice PAL* show or until (fat chance) she releases this on DVD or Blu-ray, this will be my go to.

*Madonna fans have told me the PAL LaserDisc is better than the American one, because it was recorded in PAL framerate/res. The PAL LaserDisc also isn't as yellow as the NTSC, looking at screenshots.

Shameless bump. One, how with all the Paramount rereleases have we not got one highly demanded title? No Ordinary People, no Paper Moon, no nothing? We sure got a big surprise with Bugsy Malone, but that’s about it. (If you can truly call that “it”, BM is huge.) Two, with all the second- and third-rate Miramax titles getting dropped, where is Tarantino? While I have no clue who owns Reservoir Dogs, the next four are now under Paramount’s control. Each of those would sell at least a million copies (which is pretty hard in today’s world), so why they focus on niche titles that will maybe sell 10,000 copies is a mystery. Third, if titty flicks are the big thing on Blu and 4K, why don’t we have the big ones? (Besides Madonna’s of course.) Heavy Metal is only on a so-so Blu, Fritz is coming in “summer 21”, and the rest are just MIA. I love Madonna and will eventually get this, but it’s far down my list. Even with my VHS tape damaged beyond repair, this is still far down my list. If this was *insert MIA and most-demanded title here* instead, though, I’d definitely be more excited.

P.S. Paramount, competing against Criterion won’t end well, it will just make their second-hand Blus more expensive. Just a thought. Just a thought...

Umm.... Mommie Dearest? That one can't even stay in stock anywhere because Paramount massively underestimated the demand for it. I ordered it back in March and still haven't received my copy yet and Amazon says I might not until July. That definitely fits a highly demanded Paramount title, it sure as hell was my most wanted one

Paramount+ will add Madonna's Madame X tour to their streaming service in October and they are now re-releasing Truth or Dare on Blu ray. That could explain this particular release.
