i'm not saying that he does not deserves it BUT my question is...
Is he winning it for the performance or because he died ?
I mean people are saying he's a winner for about 7 months... isn't that a little hasty ?

Mid twenties and still sucking his thumb? Wow.

Kidding.

I hope he wins. He deserves it. The character was so very far from his own persona. Huge target and gigantic leap to achieve it...and he did.

I do hope he wins because he deserves it..not because its the thing to do because he is dead...and for ratings or something. To me, reading comics...he was THE Joker. IMO, he played the Joker on how he was supposed to be played. I do hope he wins.

I would definatly be surprised to hear any other name annouced as the winner.
Im sure even "that" winner would be surprised and would mention that
Ledger deserved it.

The last time I thought anything was a done deal for an Oscar, I thought Brokeback Mountain was going to win Best Picture. The Academy has a way of being a fickle b***h.

To even be nominated considering he was in a comedy is a merit in itself. I don't see why people have a problem with someone disagreeing that Heath should win. Yes he was a great Joker I just liked RDJ's performance more.

your 100% right
just because many people (including me)believe that heath ledger is guaranteed to win doesnt mean people like u dont have a right to think someone else did better

but some people will say, HEATH DESERVES IT NO ONE ELSE HAS A CHANCE!

Also, he is a 1:20 favorite to win the Oscar. I don't ever remember seeing such a huge favorite. With those odds I would say its pretty much a done deal

heath ledger + oscar = duh!
to me atleast
he was fantastic
perfect portrayal, totally captivating role

speaking of RDJ, i wish he had been nominated for Iron man best actor, just because he WAS tony stark, it was a GREAT job
and he hasnt gotten ANY recognition for that role (in the form of awards) that i know of.........
and the public has somewat over looked it because of the monumental Dark Knight

H.L. has a great performance and is truly deserving of the award. However, the "Oscars" have to be prepared for a potential HL win...that does not mean that he is a "shoe-in" .

I think that Heath's joker was great, but Jack's was better imo. I don't know if he should win bc i haven't seen all the nominees yet.

He was the best of 2008 as far as supporting actors go. Everyone went to the movies to see him.

Clearly people are out of the loop regarding Heath Ledger. Many critics have come forward to state that they didn't vote for him just because he was dead. That's been said now, that's been said during the release. It's a damn shame that some people are too arrogant to think that his role might have been that - amazing. I also like how everyone views Academy Voters as "LOL HEATH's DEAD. WHAT AN AMAZING PERFORMANCE!!!11 LULZ!" It's as if everyone besides themselves are idiots, which strikingly is an illogical way to think. Not only that, it's a blanket statement. I'm sure I can say that the only reason Barack Obama won is because he is an African American. But that's not fair isn't it?

C'mon man. Realistically, do you expect anyone to actually say "you know what? I'm casting my vote for him entirely out of seniment." No one in their right mind would say that, because it would invalidate every vote they had afterwards. Even though it's been the contrary for a while, the idea is that the Academy Awards at least have the appearance of being an equitable contest based solely on merit.

To take another example, Jim Rice was only elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame on this, his 15th and final opportunity to be enshrined. People who did not vote for him FOURTEEN TIMES in a row suddenly decided to this year. Anyone who doesn't think that has nothing to do with it being his final year of eligibility is deluding themselves.

IMO, people who believe that Ledger's death had absolutely nothing to do with being nominated are being just as naive as those who think him dying had everything to do with it. But really, it's all entirely subjective, and we can't reverse what happened and the view we took of the performance and whether it was effected by being his last completed acting gig.
